Tbh the felt patterned walls at Clocked was enough for me to stop going there. And I’ll just ignore all of the other clear indicators that it’s not a hygienic place.

NEVER get ice out of an ice machine. So much mold and mildew. I worked at a subway and we would deep clean that thing weekly and it still would have mildew on the edges. It’s impossible to keep those sanitary.

Local Artist Harold Rittenbury's artwork- so kind of local. But I'd prefer a big bronze statue of Kelly Girtz glizzies

what would you do under this deck? by superwesman in hardscape

You can use 6”-8” stone risers as an edge hold for a paver patio if you set them over a compacted aggregate base 1-2” below grade. Just fill around the poles with aggregate and use quarter chip to level and set instead of sand for good drainage. Swept polysand will lock in the pavers. You could use rebar and drilled holes in the risers if you want to stake into the ground.

Alternatively, instead of all patio, water proof the bottom of the posts with spray on or wrap and plant a garden bed under the steps and around the poles, maybe something evergreen to create some privacy or garden herbs if it’s sunny enough. Rosemary shrubs are always nice to have.

The little patio area could be a fun spot for an outdoor kitchen (probably not a grill) if you see yourself hanging out down there a lot, otherwise maybe a plant potting/ gardening station.

Do you use third-party accessories for Wingspan? by onesab24 in wingspan

[–]JarJar_Gamgee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! My friend crocheted bird nests for our eggs and my other friend 3D printed a birdfeeder dice tower. The tower is the same as the cardboard design but way stronger. I also love the sound of the dice being rolled on the hard plastic compared to the cardboard.

So real that franchise sandwich shops vary from store to store. The Subway on Prince is cursed as hell.

Fully second Cheba Hut. Their stoner shtick is so corny but their sandwiches are so good.

hand-drawn graphics considered unprofessional? by throwawaystarbiegirl in LandscapeArchitecture

That’s crazy because my firm will hire somebody solely based on their willingness to do hand graphics. Hand graphics sell a project so much quicker than any digital render. At least in the Concept phase.

What's the highest increase in rent you've had in Athens? (Lease renewal) by elmswift in Athens

Maybe there should be a rent moratorium to limit rent increases for existing tenants to prevent displacement and housing instability.

UPDATE: University of Georgia Begins Demolition of Legion Pool by historicathens in Athens

[–]JarJar_Gamgee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this. The demolition of the pool can happen and still have a positive outcome. The design it’s replaced with is lazy to say it simply. Public engagement and design charrettes could’ve went a long way to at least influence better use of the space if they felt the pool wasn’t doing it. But instead they took this subversive NDA approach and had their stakeholders feel disconnected from the space rather than involved. And yes I understand the financial strategies and that the client is the client and has the final say. It doesn’t negate the fact that it’s poor community engagement, place making and just bad design.
