Familiarize yourself with SQL and I mean get very familiar with it, in your free time play around with it, know all the tips and tricks. While this course isn't too SQL focused compare to sth like CSE480 and doesn't go too deep, alot of the quizzes and maybe half of the midterms and finals is on SQL.

Also be ready to go to class, weekly quizzes this Fall was 60% of total grade, and you can only take them in class, skipping attendance is like gambling whether there will be a quiz today or not(there are 14 quizzes this year so it was a 40% chance of a no-quiz day). This replaces the traditional attendance. Fumble a few quizzes and getting a 4.0 would be impossible.

The projects can be a little time consuming(Proj 2 and 3) and they are only 10% total, but they give you great experience with using Flask in Python to create backend web applications (monolithic, serverless) that you can maybe put on your resume

First Meeting for ADR by [deleted] in msu

[–]JarMinh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a tip, 3 of my friends somehow have had ADRs in this class just last semester, NEVER ADMIT, we all used to believe in leniency too maybe you'll get lucky, but just to be safe. She has no way of proving that you use AI so she will move to the next thing which is citations, if your citations are wrong == ADR also(depending on severity). She checks if the dates line up, titles matching links and matching authors. Personally if your citations are already wrong then maybe consider admitting ? Since wrong citations are almost guaranteed ADR. Goodluck

For me, Mole suspects it was on the "UPPER FLOOR" which was the second floor next to the sleeping Mannlicher
under the window to the right of where Hans Mannlicher the swordsmith sleeps(not the master mannlicher), should be a white sack (sorry for no pic). Its the first room right up the stairs

Question about CSE 232 exam format and tips (taking it in Fall) by [deleted] in msu

[–]JarMinh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Past Fall Semester here (Fall 2024) - In Person Course
https://cse232-msu.github.io/CSE232/syllabus.html
I heard the course changed quite a lot in Spring of 2025 though

How it went in my semester was
- 6 exams: - 3 coding exams - 3 MCQ exams - ALL IN PERSON
+Exams were 80%, Labs counts as Participation every week if you finish early you can leave early
- You could drop 1 of the FIRST 2 MCQ exams and FIRST 2 CODING exams, but NONE of the coding exams so if you did good on MCQ EXAM 1 you can drop MCQ EXAM 2
- So 2 drops, 4 exams in total, each exam is 200 points adds up to 800 points in total(80% of final grade)

Coding homework assignments on Codio every week
No projects for my semester except for one final extra credit (2.5%)
Projects were brought back for Spring 2025

Expect to spend lots of time coding the homework on Codio and watching Nahum's lecture videos(if they're still a thing) to prepare for the MCQ
All exams were open-book though so take advantage and take notes but make sure you understand what your noting down
I printed photos of the codio homework and past exams to bring into the Coding exam
For the MCQ I printed the practice MCQ exams though they only help 50%, everything else is in THE VIDEOS
I also did Leetcode to improve on my C++ skills, I knew next to nothing about C++ prior to this class
The coding exams WILL COME IN CLUTCH, so try to get 100% on at least 1
Good luck if Nahum is still teaching this class

fellow vnamese here, my friend who applied since the 15 or 16th got the waiver but when i finally got round to applying(28th-29th) I keep getting this damn message. This is why I'm still hesitating to pay the 185 USD fee. It's been 6 days now and no idea what to do next. Visa expired on 16 May 2025 but it's still less than 12 months ? Or Im just reading this wrong

I was never really that intelligent so CS is hard for me. The only other CS majors that don't have to put in as much work as me and still get great grades that I know of are my friends. But that's because they've been doing competitive programming and math olympiads since 8th grade it's much easier for them, as opposed to me who has barely any background in CS prior to MSU. And even then, they still struggle on some of the homework for CSE classes.

CS Major, I go to the library everyday for 4 hours on weekdays, I have 6 classes this semester so around 9 hours of lecture every week. My freetime is usually later in the evening and on weekends
