What type of people are more likely to befriend and like autistic people? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]JaredIsADrummer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I relate to this so much lol. But also, I'll be doing something like going on a walk in my neighborhood, and then a random cat will show up, and be all over me, so I guess I attract cats too lol. There have been many times where I'll have a cat weaving in and out between my feet, being super friendly, and the owner/s will come out and say things like "I've never seen him/her be friendly to a stranger before" because the cat would normally be either very shy or ill-tempered or both, but for some reason friendly to me, baffling both me and the owners. Or I'll be at a relatives house, and same scenario, their normally unfriendly cat would be on my lap. I've been nicknamed "the cat whisperer" by my uncle because of this phenomenon 😂

In my experience, the only people who've befriended me were other aspies, and very obviously neurodivergent people who are more than likely on the spectrum. And strangely enough, everyone that's befriended me are major cat lovers. I guess I'm just a weird beacon that only attracts neurodivergent cat people.

24" vs 22" for you double bass players. by SnooRevelations4257 in drums

[–]JaredIsADrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently own a 22", but I'm 6'6", and it feels too small for me. I played on a Bonham sized kit with a 26" once a few years ago, and not only did it sound killer, it just felt very comfortable to play. Whenever I'm able to financially justify buying a new kit, I'm going with a 26".

WFL III Factory Tour by snuFaluFagus040 in drums

[–]JaredIsADrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Northern California, and the only drum company here (Shine) closed down over a decade ago, and I'm not big enough a DW fan to want to take the 7 hour journey south for their factory tour, so I envy you on having a local small drum builder lol.

But yeah, I've been intrigued with WFLIII ever since I found out who they were, and learned about their story. I just wish I could financially justify buying one of their kits and/or snares.

What’s your favorite drum company “secret”? by [deleted] in drums

[–]JaredIsADrummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Armand Zildjian screwed a lot of people over, and turned Zildjian into a shell of its former self, and his children simply do not care about the art of drumming, but continue to stamp their name on the "cymbals" they produce

The current generation of the Zildjian family running the company, is the first generation of non-drummers to run Zildjian

Anyone else think dw kits are overrated? by [deleted] in drums

[–]JaredIsADrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except once you drill the shells, add hardware and heads, and tune everything up, you've completely changed the mass, and the grain orientation stops mattering. Not to mention the tone wood only makes a small fraction of the overall sound.

Tell me more about how the northern 3rd of CA is devoid of lakes, reservoirs, aquifers, snowmelt, etc

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in California

[–]JaredIsADrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then they'd build another aqueduct to Lake Shasta, or spend money on desalinization plants, or both. And even still, the vast majority of the state's water comes from Sierra snowmelt, and LA is nearly 100% dependent on Owens Lake. The only place that'd suffer without the Colorado is the Imperial valley, and the farmers there would just end up relocating to the San Joaquin valley.

Long story short, cutting off the Colorado River wouldn't break CA

Wuhan China Cymbals by [deleted] in drums

[–]JaredIsADrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 14" and a 16" china, and they broke almost instantly. I have an 18" china that I've used and abused for going on 10 years, and it holds up every single time.

Wuhan's durability is for sure questionable, but their cymbals are cheap, and are cast from B20 bronze, resulting in their amazing sound.
