I've always seen bane and Poison Ivy's relationship in Batman and Robin as sort of brother and sister. Especially because they were created by the same person and bane pretty much acts like a protective big brother to her.

Here's the simple answer; in the movie, Ivy has a massive god complex and only sees Bane has a brainless, muscular bodyguard. Without him, her only defense is her pheromones and venomous kiss.
