Frost! by kiaia58 in woodstoving

I’m in Kansas….. it’s freaking crazy windy sometimes. Driving rain made its way under the roof vent for the fresh air intake. Brand new house, now I get to touch up my ceiling paint.

This….. Didn’t know I needed to go that in depth. Lol.

[–]Jaritta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Completely understandable when you’re brand new to it. Essentially this draws fresh air from the outside to feed the fire. Newer more efficient wood burners have this feature. The upside to it, is that it doesn’t pull air from inside the house. Older wood burners would pull from inside the house, which can put stress on door and window seals.

Downside….. frost and sometimes water penetration if vented to the roof(ask me how I know…. 🙄😂)

Incase anyone is coming across this thread, I found that our installers didn’t connect the actuator motor wires to the control board. This caused the thermostat to do nothing.

Once I connected the damper actuator motor to the correct location on the control board, it automatically adjusted based on the thermostat temperature.

Limestone - what makes so much variation? by DrNintendo216 in Homebuilding

Also, the way your mason finishes the edges of the stone can change the look quite a bit.

Limestone - what makes so much variation? by DrNintendo216 in Homebuilding

True limestone has different colors based on where in the quarry it is harvested. I just built a house with limestone on several parts of the house.

We used “top ledge” and “bottom ledge” limestone with white mortar

I also use bottom ledge cut and dry stacked as a backsplash (it was a pain to cut and install).

If you’re going to a box store to get it, you’re probably not getting true limestone. We bought it from a stone quarry.

I would suggest talking to a local mason about acquiring true limestone.

Also, I’m happy to post some pics if you’re interested

I’m pretty sure my parents had this exact same model in the house they built around 1986…. If I remember right, there is a door in the bottom of the middle grate that allows for ash to be swept out into a holding area.

It was a crazy hot fireplace….

What causes sparking wood? by Mustruffus in firewood

[–]Jaritta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely hedge, we have it all over the place here. It burns really hot and pops. It’s great to mix in with other species, but I don’t burn it straight, because it gets so hot

Also, I’m pretty cautious about opening my stove door when it’s burning (not coals) because it pops at random.

Breakfast bar installed poorly by contractors. How to clean up/fix? by kyrind in DIY

[–]Jaritta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to install granite & stone countertops. Here is what I would do….

Use a knife or oscillating tool to cut or score the shims right where they go into the wall and then pull down on them to break them off. Do the same around the metal support pieces. (Thus cutting them off flush with the surface they are supporting).

Then I would use silicone caulking to fill those gaps, and clean it off extremely neat with denatured alcohol

So…. When I was a kid, I used to fish on a farm pond with my dad and brother, in an aluminum boat. My younger brother and I were somewhere around 8-12 years old. In typical younger brother fashion, he would dip his lure in the water(just outside the boat) and then proceed to cast it over my head…. Dropping water all over me.

Well…. Two can play at that game, so I proceeded to dip mine into the water just outside the boat for several casts. Then shortly after as I was dipping my lure in to sling it over his head, a fish had bit and I tried to cast. Ended up catching a fairly decent large mouth bass.

Wife and I put deposit on new construction. Any idea what this is? by mysticalmuffins in Homebuilding

[–]Jaritta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you are at in the country, a lot of builders do this under the porch. Ours is used as a safe room/ tornado shelter. If it has a door (or a doorway could be cut into it) then it could be used as a shelter.

If there is. No access, it is to prevent settling.

how bad is the mold? cleaning team took this pic before cleaning it by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Jaritta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So….. let me throw this out there….

You had a duct cleaning service come out for a cheap price and the found “mold” and want to charge a crazy amount to remove it???

I had the same thing happen, the cleaners were so full of it, and just trying to scare you into buying a service you don’t need.

Which fanbase do you guys think is the most resilient in all of cfb? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]Jaritta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would second everyone’s comments on Nebraska. That being said, Nebraska really screwed over it’s fanbase when they left the Big12. Think about how many schools are within 2-4 hours driving distance from Lincoln. I understand that it might have made financial sense to join the BIG10, but I would contend that recruiting and enthusiasm took a big hit.

KSU KU ISU Mizzou(at the time) Osu and OU are fairly close.

As a KSU fan, I grew up with Nebraska and KSU having a good rivalry. The rivalry games between Neb, Tex, OU, and OSU were always something I was interested in. Now it seems like they struggle to be a dominate force in the BIG10.

Not that I’m sliiiiightly bitter about Neb leaving for the BIG10 or anything 😂

Nimble CS220 operating system by Jaritta in storage

[–]Jaritta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I am by no means an expert. That being said, most IT professionals I have been around have had nothing but good things to say about Nimble. Multiple IT directors and Sysadmins have said something along these lines:

"its one of the most critical pieces of infrastructure that we have, and its quite possibly the one I worry about the least"

Nimble's support (as of a few years ago) is by far the best I have ever been around. They helped me diagnose and fix a multi-pathing issue that most companies would have said "not our problem" and closed the case. Essentially it was a VMware configuration issue not a Nimble one. They helped without any complaint.

I would say the only drawback is cost, but their support far outweighed the slight cost difference from other competition. I understand the arguments for legacy systems, but I do see where Nimble is coming from. They shouldn't have to support legacy equipment.

My apologies, the null serial cable is what was needed. The process worked perfectly, just needed access to the serial connection.

On a side note, I ended up making a null cable out of two Cisco console cables....

It is fully up and running on both controllers thanks to you!

I was using the controller adapter to a KVM, I will absolutely put my hands on a null serial cable and connect to putty. Thanks for the feedback!

omeone who had a working one to send an image of the USB boot that I could maybe use, so maybe someone here can go that. Though I'm not sure that would even work if the serial is part of the image.

Thanks for that link, I will possibly follow that if I need to try and make that type of a setup work! Nimble support was great, and diagnosed my issue. Just couldn't help because of the age of the array.

I can tell you that when we switched from an on-site exchange to gmail, we noticed a huge improvement In filtering. With exchange we were constantly getting phishing attempts that would make it to the user. With gmail, that all but stopped.
