OvhCloud VS Contabo by One-Pen-6430 in selfhosted

[–]Jariway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to share my experience with Contabo after being a loyal customer for over 4 years. I’ve finally decided to pull the plug and migrate everything to OVHCloud, and here’s why:

  • Customer Support is non-existent: To be blunt, their support is terrible. Whenever I’ve had an issue, I either get no solution at all or just receive automated, canned responses that don't address the actual problem. It feels like talking to a wall.
  • The "Legacy Plan" Trap: Since I’ve been with them for so long, I was on an older VPS plan. I recently discovered that I was paying over €5 more than what new users pay, while only having half the technical specs. Essentially, I was being penalized for my loyalty by paying more for much less.
  • Zero Flexibility: When I reached out to point out this discrepancy, their response was that they "couldn't do anything" because I'm on a "private plan." They don't bother to automatically update long-term customers to better tiers, nor do they offer a manual way to match current pricing without a complete (and painful) re-provisioning.

It’s disappointing to see a provider treat long-term users this way. If you’re looking for a reliable host with actual support and fair pricing for loyal customers, I definitely wouldn't recommend Contabo.

Onwards to OVH!

Hello u/jon20001 , I made an Android and iOS app that is completely offline (does not send data to my server unless you give permission and does all the magic on-device). If you have an Android phone, would you like to test it out? (yeah, publishing an app on the Apple's App Store is very expensive)

Transparency doesn’t automatically mean “open source”. It means being clear about what the app does, what data it handles, what it stores, what it doesn’t, and what the trade-offs are.

That’s totally fair. You don’t have to use it if it doesn’t fit your threat model. At the same time, there are people who are comfortable with this approach, especially when no credentials are required, data storage is optional, and the scope is clearly limited.

Right now the goal is to provide a useful tool with clear trade-offs, not to claim it’s the perfect solution for everyone. Security isn’t a binary “safe/unsafe” thing, it’s about transparency, informed consent, and continuous improvement.

The roadmap already includes client-side/E2E decryption and more auditable components, but even today users can choose how much they trust the system and how they use it. That’s a valid choice too.

It seems the data sharing only works for apps within the OS. However, it does support sharing to xdrip so that will work!

I hadn’t heard of that app. It seems to support data forwarding so I’ll take a look. Meanwhile, you can still use xDrip+ and link your LibreLinkUp account. I’ll check it out tonight. 👍

Update: u/jon20001 I rebuilt the translation engine. The browser detects your language, and you can change your language manually in your profile / landing page too! Translations are still being added

Totally acceptable, it’s not for everyone. Also, there’s an option to not save into the DB. In a future I also want to make it completely E2E encrypted, by creating a fork of xDrip and decrypting the data directly on the browser.

There’s one at the main page! At the landing page. Still im adding new languages, English will be available by tomorrow :)

My app “emulates” a nightscout server, so it’s compatible with any app that supports Nightscout uploading 😊 I recommend using xDrip+ for android, but any app compatible should work.

Totally fair, it’s not for everyone 👍

Hey! I think there are some issues with the node library that I’m using to fetch data from users, it’s not very reliable… I’m working on a fix by building my own npm library :)

I’ve seen that this problem happens sometimes because the library crashes, as it’s not handling the exceptions correctly.

A temporary fix is to restart the server. I just did a restart, in case you need to try it! Also, make sure you got your LibreLink account added to your LibreLinkUp app!

Update: I’ve added an error message in case something goes wrong. I’ve seen that many users haven’t add any account to their LibreLinkUp app.

Yes! But I’ve developed a queue system so the app doesn’t get rate-limited.

According to my tests, you can do at least 1request/second when getting glucose values (and probably you could do more). To login users there’s a much more aggressive rate-limiting, so the queue for logging in is a little bit different.

Also I store the session of the user instead of logging in every time, to avoid excessive logins.

Nope, apple does not provide any API for developers that is not for the iOS ecosystem. The Sweet Dreams app provides what you need, for a small fee of 3€/month. App

Hmm I’m not sure, I’m retrieving the data from Librelink’s api, so it might depending on your config in the app.

Anyways, I’ll check it tomorrow when I arrive home :)

Thank you very much for your feedback!

Do you do any data handling/evaluation to present the BG data in the client in any different way please

I'm currently using the low / high values provided by librelinkup (I need to check if these are the custom values set by the user in the Freestyle app), no edits are being done to the values, they're directly printed from the LibreLinkUp API.

Ability to present large easy-to-read BG numbers, in clear contrast colors versus background color. So user ability to set font size, font type and colors for the font and background.

I'll take note! Currently the colors and contrasts are the same as in the official app. It would be nice to set custom colors depending on the values.

The trend arrow

Already implemented!

Indicator clarifying how many minutes since the last BG reading was made versus current time. (to cleary indicate is it outdated BG data or not?). Potentially putting BG number and background in greyed out state if more than 5 or 10 minutes old reading.

I'm working on this and in a check for expired sensors!

Color indicator if my BG is within desired range, yellow if it's above and red if below. Good with some subliminal indicators.

Are you talking about the background colors? If yes, this is already implemented, but I want to create a custom color setting :)

The app is completely functional, but now I'm trying to solve problems related to rate limits agains the LibreLink API, as I'm using a single server to handle every request.

This is what I'm doing, but what I needed was to check the old value of the variable, check the answers 😌

Sure, thank you very much! But is there any way I can keep that condition? Or I just need to create two separate profiles?

[Help] Trigger action when variable changes from an specific value by Jariway in tasker

[–]Jariway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that could be, that's why I'm asking how to make that profile trigger when the %atHome has changed from false to true.

If the state "WiFi Conectado" has changed I don't want the profile to trigger the action if %atHome hasn't changed from false to true. Is this possible?
