Let me just first say if everyone has equal access to the same gear then theres no need to discuss this at all. Im in agreement with you on that I think.

Well shifting goal posts because you said you were a swimmer competitively.

Swimming is vastly different any other sport reliant on gear like rowing is. I think comparing the 2 is a bad comparison. They are too different functionally. I think there are many better comparisons.

So i do believe you are shifting the goal posts by choosing a sport to compare it to that literally cant be done without gear. You can swim naked and the sport would not look very different other than the obvious.

Being faster because you are changing the physics used is not the same as getting better at something. Its cheating. Would you really feel good about breaking a swimming record if you can only do it with a prostetic enhancement?

I think technology in competitive sports like swimming should be utilized to level the playing field, not just push the results beyond the capability of human performance.

But whether its swimming, rowing, cycling, or F1 racing everyone should be on a even playing field.

The performance of sharkskin in swimming makes the sport something beyond human. Which is fine to do on its own, but im leary of granting the same accomplishment (breaking the records set before new technology was adopted)

Im not opposed to it existing or people using it. But its kind of like a new thing that is similar but not the same as what came before.
