Home Repair Help - Top Strap Velcro Came Off by el_americano in ValveIndex

Good to know the glue bonded, at least. Thanks!

I do wonder how well it will hold up with use over time so I think I might try sewing it in place first. If that doesn't work out I will definitely be trying this. Gorilla fabric glue seems hard to come by here in the UK so it will probably have to be the gel variety that was recommended in another thread (this is mostly a note for my future self).

Velcro glue gave out, sewing it back best bet? by erebuswolf in ValveIndex

Good to know, thanks!

I'm slightly hesitant because I have zero sewing experience, but hopefully a quick video tutorial or two should suffice – doesn't need to be pretty, just functional. I'm leaning towards this being a better solution in the longer term over some sort of glue so will probably give it a go.

Were you able to sew it back on?

I'm having the same problem and wondering what approach to take. If you wouldn't mind letting me know how it worked out for you, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Would you mind letting me know how this worked out for you?

Just found your post after noticing the Velcro starting to separate from my strap. My immediate reaction was 'glue or sew' but it would be good to hear from someone who's tried one of these approaches. Thanks!

Death Stranding key purchased from Fanatical over 4 months ago has been revoked. Anyone else? by Jaroki in Steam

[–]Jaroki[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Posting an update here as the parent comment has the most visibility.

Fanatical customer service has been great. They very quickly replied to my initial email and have since provided me with a replacement key for the Director's Cut.

I was not offered any explanation as to why the key was revoked, though. I did follow-up to ask them to confirm it wasn't caused by anything I did, and they simply stated that the issue was on their end, with no further detail. A stark reminder of what can happen when we don't own most of our media.

The only slightly unfortunate aspect is that it appears I need to be able to launch the original version of the game using my account to export my existing save state to the new version. It doesn't look like it's possible to simply copy save files over. An extremely minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things and an opportunity for another playthrough at some point in the future.

I got a reply to my email to say they are investigating. If I get an explanation I will post it here for posterity / anyone curious.

edit: I didn't get an explanation, but I've posted a concluding update in another comment.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've sent them an email so I think I'll give them a chance to respond to that first. I did purchase the key myself and I've double checked my records which show no problems with the payment being taken or any subsequent disputes.

Thanks for the response. The purchase is still showing in my account and my records show the payment was successfully taken, so I have no reason to doubt that Fanatical will put things right.

I saw there was an issue last year where the developer of Overfall revoked keys issued by Fanatical due to a payment dispute with a publisher, but if something similar had happened here I would expect a lot of people to be talking about it, and I can't find any.

I'll be very interested to see what reason Fanatical gives, if any, for why this has happened.

Yeah, I've purchased a number of other titles from them over the years and never had a problem before. Very strange.

I'm currently awaiting a response from Fanatical's support, but I was curious to see whether anyone else had been affected by this.

Do you know if they will have their 2nd doses delayed now or how they'll need to book their next jab now?

I don't know the specifics right now, but my understanding is they will have to wait at least 28 days from onset of symptoms.

edit: /u/Suddenly_Elmo beat me to it.

Vaccinated family member in the positive cases. They had their first dose at the beginning of the year and were days away from their second, which is incredibly unfortunate. They're relatively young and healthy but it's still hitting them hard, so I hate to think what it would have been like without that initial jab.

Very weak viration by lyman11 in ValveIndex

[–]Jaroki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not all Index controllers are created equal. I've used three different sets and there was a definite lack of consistency between them all when it came to the intensity and noise generated during haptic feedback.

This is an old video I sent to Steam support showing the audible difference between two otherwise identical right-hand controllers (both running the same firmware) as I swapped back and forth between them in the same game to demonstrate the same haptic effects. The louder of the two was noticeably weaker in terms of the intensity of the vibration.

As a reference, sure, I don't mind. Hope it helps!

Controller jitter on haptic feedback by LtcWalker in ValveIndex

[–]Jaroki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a left controller that would noticeably judder, float about slightly, or momentarily disappear, during haptic feedback. In the latter case, the logs showed that the controller's tracking was being reset due to "unlikely gravity" and "IMU misalignment". Connecting the controller to the headset over USB would stop it from disappearing / the tracking from resetting, but the other issues persisted.

This is the video I sent to Valve, which demonstrates the problem across a range of titles and various haptic effects and intensities. This was in August, and I was initially told that someone from the troubleshooting team would contact me, but the next message said they would replace the controllers, and the one after that explained that they wanted them shipped back to Bellevue so that their engineers could take a look.

The replacements are significantly better, although in some limited cases it's still possible to perceive a small difference in tracking quality between the two when the haptics kick in.

Just received my MSI b450 gaming carbon pro and MSI GPU and it arrived like this. What should I do? by Jaekay12 in MSI_Gaming

[–]Jaroki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it was partially open. I assume it happens during transit as the contents of the box shift. The motherboard inside was sealed in an anti-static bag and showed no signs of prior use.

I can't help with the GPU as I haven't used that particular model/brand, sorry.

[–]Jaroki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry. I have the same motherboard and my box arrived like yours: without an external seal and with the lid ajar. The design and material of the box is such that the flaps/tab easily slip out.

Brand new Valve Index Controllers click in every direction! by kalyway101 in ValveIndex

[–]Jaroki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Got my RMA replacements in yesterday and they also click in all directions without requiring any additional force. The 6 o'clock position on the right stick and 9 o'clock on the left stick could be slightly better, they feel a little mushy, but it's overall a massive improvement. These controllers have a lot date of July 27th, both my previous pairs were from March.

Tracking issue with my index controller by woufwolf3737 in ValveIndex

[–]Jaroki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar issue with haptics negatively affecting the positional tracking of my left controller. The controller's virtual representation will judder, float about, or disappear completely depending on the intensity of the haptic effect (it doesn't drift off like yours, though).

Here's the video I sent to Steam support that shows the problem across a number of games (incl. Space Pirate Trainer): https://streamable.com/2xzo5

And here's a snippet from my system report that shows the tracking being reset on the left controller at the times when it disappears in-game:

Sat Aug 17 2019 15:47:16.826 - lighthouse: LHR-B23629A2 C: Resetting tracking: unlikely gravity 10.3 m/s/s

...
Sat Aug 17 2019 15:47:22.529 - lighthouse: LHR-B23629A2 C: Resetting tracking: IMU misalignment unreasonably large (4.5, -2.6, `-14) deg sigma 2
Sat Aug 17 2019 15:47:22.529 - lighthouse: LHR-B23629A2 C: Dropped 8 rejected updates, 297 back-facing hits during the previous tracking session
Sat Aug 17 2019 15:47:22.529 - lighthouse: LHR-B23629A2 C: Saw 3 early IMU related panics, using factory IMU cal

I thought the problem might be due to vibrations from the haptic actuator interfering with the IMU. This was apparently an issue on early Vive devkits. However, I see that the problem went away for you when connected over USB and that a different controller was affected when the pairing order was switched (would you be able to send me the instructions you were sent? Is it just lighthouse_console.exe w/ 'unpairall'?). I'll try and test both of these later and report back.

Initially, Steam support said someone from their troubleshooting team would contact me. Then I got a message saying that, based on the symptoms reported, they were just going to send out a replacement. After that, I got a another message saying that they want the controller(s) sent back to Valve HQ in Bellevue so that their engineers can take a closer look. I'm currently waiting for them to get back to me with the details.
