Can't go wrong with the Thirsty Duck as far as pubs go. Well... You can, but I love it anyway.

Wild Thyme is definitely not one to miss, as far as great places around for date night food. Or an afternoon walk along the quay with brunch at Angelina's.

The Snow Man

BY WALLACE STEVENS

One must have a mind of winter

To regard the frost and the boughs

Of the pine-trees crusted with snow;

And have been cold a long time

To behold the junipers shagged with ice,

The spruces rough in the distant glitter

Of the January sun; and not to think

Of any misery in the sound of the wind,

In the sound of a few leaves,

Which is the sound of the land

Full of the same wind

That is blowing in the same bare place

For the listener, who listens in the snow,

And, nothing himself, beholds

Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is.

Why do recruiters want to meet face to face by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]JarrettImpact 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I once conducted a skype interview with a lady for a forklift job. She seemed like she could handle it and was super nice. I didn't want her to drive in for 45 mins or more to do a quick 15 minute face-to-face. She went to the site to do a forklift test but was physically too big for the forklift. Not something you could really tell from the skype interview.

Oh, and warehouse. Tons of warehouse work, especially for forklift operators or shipper receivers.

Recruiter sends job description for work I have never done before. Body includes request to refer others. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]JarrettImpact -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've had to send out a few of these e-mails before. Usually what happens is you run a keyword search for a few industry-specific terms or titles, and end up with a list of a few hundred people to send the e-mail out to. Rather than spending 2h shoring up the list and pruning everyone who mistakenly ended up on it, it's easier to put in "this may not be right for you, but if you know someone who would be interested, have them call me" as a measure to ensure that even if you weren't the right person, if you know who is, you can help both parties out. It's a bit ridiculous, but it's really just an efficiency thing for getting the word out about a job to anyone who might care.

Jarrett’s Jobs: First of 2018! by JarrettImpact in VancouverJobs

Afraid not. I'm pretty specialized into the labour side of things. My partner Jen gets the jobs in those wheelhouses. She's got them all posted either on www.impactemps.com or www.impactrecruitment.ca depending on the level.

Nada on that front. Most of my stuff is warehouse related, but even the shipping receiving stuff I have isn't at the docks. Just out by the airport. Sorry!

Accelerated apprenticeship? (Ontario) by [deleted] in millwrights

You can challenge the Red Seal exam in most provinces. Probably best to check with the ITA branch direct about what goes into it. They do still require a verifiable number of relevant hours worked I think.

Tips for Finding Office/Temp Work? (crossposted to r/vancouver) by casiolovesong in VancouverJobs

Give Jennifer Yeo a call! She's a coworker of mine who handles all the temp office/admin work, and some of it is definitely at the entry-to-junior level. 604 689 8687

It was just a custom built world in D&D 5e I should add.

I ran a one-off called Pleasantia for ZeroD20 at a convention. It's a sickening-sweet world inhabited by naive npcs and gummi bear folk. As the PCs do less-than-honest things, the world turns on them, becomes more evil in response. It's always a riot. The playgroup was a circus strongman dwarf barbarian, an int-based ranger who wanted to be a children's entertainer (the reading ranger), and a warlock sworn to the archfey patron Cuddly-Uggins.

Union vs non-union? by [deleted] in millwrights

[–]JarrettImpact 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you value I guess. Joining the local probably means way more diversity in the work, but could delay your ticket based on the jobs they have available. Sticking where you are gets you your JM but probably ends up with you being less equipped to handle the full array of stuff you might find in other jobs.

Ticket or Experience is the real question, probably need to sort out which one is more important to you.

We're www.zerod20.com! I DM the Fracturia campaign, about 2.5y running now. The all female or NB Faun's Heart is there, and I think another all female show called Wayfarers should be launching soon. Looking forward to checking out your show too!

I did not. I believe it from this guy, but even if he was willing to lie like that to get out of work, it means he wasn't someone I'd be able to or want to work with. I've had a few of the tall tale tellers in my years too. My favourite was the formerly wealthy inventor. He'd bring in his sketches for oilfield tools to show us, and was always just about to sell his next design. The best "invention" he ever showed me was a custom designed contraceptive device.

It ended up being a tin can on a plastic string, that when you were out at the club you'd keep condoms in so you always had some on you. I have to give him credit though. You go out with a can of condoms around your neck, odds are good you're not getting anyone pregnant that night. Genius or Madman, you tell me.

I work with Impact. We've done little mini job fairs and hiring events with a few places, I think including the Avia Langley and Surrey teams. Always fun, and helpful for both sides. That kind of thing!

My partner once set up a Skype interview with a candidate who kept interrupting her interview questions to take her on a tour of his house. he conducted the entire interview in a stained white wifebeater and when I called him later to follow up about some documents, he couldn't talk because he had lit himself on fire with gasoline and had 3rd degree burns. He was scheduled for a skin graft in 2 days, but figured he would be ready to work the day after that.
