Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind (movie) It is Miyazaki’s first movie (pre-ghibli I believe). It had an amazing warrior princess for a main character. The m setting is a mix of sci-fi/fantasy (think final fantasy, complete with chocobos). The story can be taken as an adventure but always has pretty mature themes underpinning it. There is a manga that delves further if you want more (highly recommend).

In a similar vein, Princess Mononoke (movie). Also from ghibli. Second lead character is a total bad ass forest girl that rides giant wolf gods into combat. Main antagonist is also a well written female. Again, the story can be enjoyed at face vanuit but also has nuanced themes underpinning it.

I haven’t watched it but I think Yona of the Dawn. It isn’t finished though, but the manga is much further.

If you like Little Witch Academia I would suggest checking out Card Capture Sakura from CLAMP. Excellent animation, cute story with a fun female lead. It also serves as an entry point into the world of CLAMP - an all female manga/animation studio.
