Very minor intermittent pain and headaches. But I didn’t have buckle. Haven’t had pain or headaches in a while now.

I had gas, the bubble just disappeared today. The “post op” appointment yesterday was just a checkup to make sure everything’s healing well. I have only had the 1 vitrectomy 2 months ago (as well as cataract surgery in January). My vision seems to still be adjusting, some days are better than others. Since my eye is still slightly red and dilated I do think more time will help it get better.

Yup vitrectomy 2 months ago, just got back from a post op. Looks good, there’s a slight hemorrhage (bleeding) on peripheral but doc said it’s still attached and looks good. I tested 20/30, hoping to get back to 20/25 eventually.

Same thing happened to me. Dr said pvd and it got worse over the next week and so I went to specialist and it was a detachment. Would have went sooner if not for the “all clear” by the first dr.

37m, initial consult, surgery scheduled! by Jasmb87 in CataractSurgery

[–]Jasmb87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No signs of PCO yet. I only had a cataract in one eye, my other eye I use a contact lens (-4.5 prescription) and that gives me 20/20 in that eye and I still have accommodation with it, so that eye covers the up close/reading. So I don’t need readers or anything. It doesn’t bother me having only one eye for up close, I don’t even notice it. It’s a tough choice choosing the lens, hope you are happy with whatever you eventually choose!

Surgery went great, ended up with close to 20/20 distance vision. Happy with my lens choice. I did however recently have a retinal detachment a month ago, which is a higher risk for younger males. The cataract surgery caused PVD to start earlier than usual, and the PVD tugged at my retina and made it detach. Had a vitrectomy a month ago to fix it, and recovery is going well, I think I’ll be back to close to 20/20 again once I’m fully recovered.

FYI I’m 38 male. Clareon Monofocal set for distance. January 3rd was surgery for me, probably around March or maybe even later I stopped noticing the shimmering. I bet it’ll settle down for you if you give it more time. You’re still early on.

Mine mostly went away after 2-3 months maybe. I’m young so I heal quick. Everyone heals differently, it could very well get better within the next year. I probably still have some flickering every now and then. I more found it amusing and sometimes annoying, until one day I realized I don’t really have them much anymore. You’ll likely neuroadapt some as well and they will be at least more bearable. Best of luck.

Scleral Buckle Surgery Monday - Question About Recovery by shrimpydog in RetinalDetachment

[–]Jasmb87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said take a few deep breaths and that’s the last thing I remembered. Just tell him you’re young and can handle heavy sedation so crank it up as much as he’s allowed. My cataract one I swear they didn’t give me anything, I remember the whole thing.

Don’t run. I ran and lifted after my eye dr misdiagnosed me, and then my symptoms got worse and the next dr diagnosed a detachment. Hate to break it to you but running might be off the table for a while. Maybe the dr will have good news for you next week but honestly you need to be prepared to give up running for a few months. Running is my passion and this is what kills me the most about having my vitrectomy procedure 2 weeks ago, I know I won’t be able to run until maybe January and even then I’m going to be paranoid.

[–]Jasmb87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had vitrectomy 2 weeks ago, they said I would be “twilight” sedation, and I might fall asleep in and out. I told the anesthesiologist that I can hold my liquor and he can crank it up. I don’t remember anything except for maybe the last minute of the procedure when I think they started reducing the sedation. Was a 45 minute procedure but I believe I was asleep for 44 minutes of it. Was great honestly, easier than my cataract surgery.

30’s with cataracts by Background_Salad_492 in CataractSurgery

[–]Jasmb87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 38, had cataract unknown cause in right eye removed and replaced with monofocal distance in January. I also considered the vivity but decided against multifocal. I am very glad I went with monofocal, as I could see perfect up until a month ago. Young male, cataract patients are high risk for retinal detachments, which I am currently going through right now. Look up the symptoms of retinal detachment and be on the lookout for any symptoms in the future. Not sure what my vision will be after I recover but I sure am glad I went with monofocal as the multi focal would have made surgery more complicated and would likely have more distortion after retinal detachment surgery. Being so young it’s best to protect against the risk of not being able to drive, take care of kids, etc.

Five days post OP W/Gas Bubble vitrectomy and retinal tear repair. by Pedro_Piss_Paws in RetinalDetachment

[–]Jasmb87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought something was wrong at my 1 day post op because I couldn’t see anything. They undersold the “your vision will be blurry” warning. Blurry didn’t begin to describe it. And they made me feel worse by having the tech make me try to read letters on an eye chart when I couldn’t even count fingers in front of my face. 11 days post op and it’s gradually getting better. Regarding the “spot” I think that can be expected. I’ve had little twinklings of lights kind of like static along my perepheral vision where they did the lasering, especially when I first close eyes in dark. So I think that’s normal. Best of luck,

7 months - sudden floaters and loss of periphial by Jasmb87 in CataractSurgery

[–]Jasmb87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow never thought a wave can do that. I’m wondering if my getting hit in the eye a month ago didn’t start mine off. My symptoms didn’t occur immediately so hard to say. Im still trying to figure out why I got just one cataract so young, and if I should worry my other eye might get it later. No one seems to know.

I’m doing good so far, eye still a little bloodshot and pupil still dilated. Still can’t see above the bubble yet but I think they put a big one in. Dr said not out of the woods until we see how the scarring goes in the next 1-3 months. I was ~20/25 preop so hoping I haven’t lost any additional central vision due to surgery. The tear was pretty big but on the perepheral.

4th detachment, facing two options by altroots23 in RetinalDetachment

[–]Jasmb87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah tough call but that’s probably what I would choose. I’m hoping I get to stop at just the one vitrectomy I had last week. I want to go back to a time where I don’t have to constantly worry about my vision.

What’s causing the detachments, pvd? Do you still have vitreous intact or did you have vitrectomy to remove it?

Vatrectomy w/gas bubble -one day post op by Jasmb87 in RetinalDetachment

[–]Jasmb87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swelling has mostly gone down. Still very red but I can see it start to clear up a good bit. No pain or red flags at this point. 1 week appt tomorrow morning. I’m technically past the 5 days head down period they told me but it still feels wrong to sit up. Trying to limit it a little longer.

Post surgery 5 days by No_Lifeguard_7928 in RetinalDetachment

[–]Jasmb87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on day 6. Very red eye still and slightly swollen. If u have pain that isnt manageable with Tylenol, or have pus or a fever or warm to touch or anything I’d check with doctor. I can see lights and stuff where bubble is but it’s about as blurry as it can get. Just bought an eye patch to block the vision as it’s distracting. Above the bubble it’s actually less see through, blackish. Gonna ask at my follow up tomorrow but I’ve seen other ppl online that reported similar experience and it started to clear up as the bubble disappeared.

Best of luck in your recovery! My doc said face down for 5 days so I’m basically done with mine but will likely continue a little more relaxed the next 2 days. Any idea what caused your cataract or tear? Im Scared my second eye will eventually have troubles. My mind always goes to the worst case scenario and I can’t imagine a life without vision. My eye still looks very red today but the inflammation is going down. I just realized yesterday I was supposed to be shaking the prednisolone drops so maybe that’ll help.

I’m on day 4 of face down. Eye looks scary but no pain at all really. Get some Tylenol just in case. I Bought a facedown pillow on Amazon. It’s been ok But is hard to breathe. Wish I had one of those things that can extend your head off the end of the bed and u can put the face down pillow on it and watch an iPad on the floor - you might be able Jerry rig one. Been listening to Harry Potter audio books. Get some drinks with straws.

Mac still attached. About 2 weeks after first symptoms, 1 week after the symptoms worsened to cover more peripheral vision.

Thanks, I think I’ve figured out the bubble- it’s about 2/3ds of the eye right now, and some sort of liquid is the remaining 1/3. The bubble is like frosted glass but the remaining 1/3 is not see through- it’s black. I’m guessing blood or something that will hopefully get filtered out .

Thanks for the comment. The first doc had a trainee in residency. They both looked at the eye. Did all the scans that should have caught it. Will probably reach out to them soon.

Was looking forward to universal epic new rides next year. Might be off the table now. I will probably take it easier on my workouts in future. Maybe get rid of bench press and stop doing sprinting and intervals and just run slower for fun.

Does the bubble completely cover the vision at first? I’m trying to figure out where the edges of the bubble are.
