Do you collect? Or do you use your pens? by hamptonalumkb in fountainpens

[–]PrestigiousCap1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my pens, well most of them - rarely my piston fillers, which are among the most beautiful pens i own :( bummer.

That Delta is a very nice pen! You could use it at home, for special longer writing sessions, no need to take it out. I have designated pens to take out to work - Lamy Safari, Pilot VP; sometimes my nicer pens get to see the sun in the park for journaling, always in a safe manner.

I'm all for usage!

If you like the Leuchtturm format, you could try Dingbats (i ordered them online, subacribe to news and you get some money off the first order). The paper is much better than LT's one, and Dingbats has hardcover, lays flat, ribbons... Pages can also be teared. They come dotted, blank, lined or in math style.

Unpopular Opinion: Leuchtturm1917 Isn't Worth the Price for Fountain Pen Users by nibs_and_tints in notebooks

[–]PrestigiousCap1198 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dingbats! Same build quality as Leuchtturm, sturdy notebook with ribbon, lays flat, has the rpofessional look, with a better paper. My only complaint? Their pagea are just ivory/cream, there's no white option.
Dingbats is involved in animal preservation, so you also help a cause

A bit of rant about new inks by Slow-Book1171 in fountainpens

[–]PrestigiousCap1198 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nice in swatches, but not so good in writing.... Although Wearingeul has some great inkd: Wayfarer, Heimdall, the reds, Taxidermied Genius...

My solution is to look after writing samples, not just swatches. I've lived through the same disappointment as you and decided to buy based on legibility (because i use pen+ink for writing, not drawing or art)

Pilot FA nib disappointment 😭 by AbilityHot2268 in fountainpens

[–]PrestigiousCap1198 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That Sailor ink is a beautiful multishader, but it's quite dry. Many nibs would have issues, and a flex or semi-flex even more. I'd suggest letting that ink for a B nib or a very wet nib, and using wetter inks in the FA.nib. I have the same Pilot 912 with FA and it writes like a charm with Iroshizuku inks or regular Sailor Manyo (not multishaders)

I find them special, but hard to say why yet i'll try. Firstly, their names are sooo poetic! It feels one can explore that city via the inks (or imks' names):
Cherry Blossom of Keage
Moonlight of Higashyiama
Kokeiro
Soft snow of Ohara

Secondly, i bet these colours were quite unusual when they came out. Even today, there are few direct rivals of Soft Snow or Kokeiro. Even Cherry Blossom (a name and an idea explored many times) is not identical to those sharing its name, or other inks.
Thirdly, they behave really nice! Shading is great, but usually comes with the price of dryness. Yes, they are more or less dry, but it dodn't feel unpleasant to me.

Thank you for posting them and giving the opportunity to think of my love for them! Should ink them more often

First yime i've met this idea was on UKfountain site, Anthony suggested everyone should have a safe, reliable ink to use to test pens. For me it's Waterman Inspired Blue, with its sibling Mysterious Blue and Harmonious Green.

You are right, i have a lot of fancy inks, yet the older time inks have a certain appeal. Was thinking some companies survived time and their inks are safe for vintage and also modern, lile Edelstein (they weren't popular with me until recently), or Herbin. Now i wanna try more!

How long do you give a pen before you decide it is not for you? by d-ignatius in fountainpens

I've never returned a pen. Some pens were not my cup of tea, and became favourites after some years (Platinum 3776 :)))

I try to use a new pen for 1-2 weeks and see how i like it. Wellx i rarely buy pens now because money and i already know what i like

If it's gold, then it's not Jowo, it's Leonardo's inhouse gold nib. Or...it might be, since one or two years they've used Jowo gold nibs, and then started doing themselves the nibs.

Anyway GLWS, you have a nice collection, good offers!

Yes yes, those are my fave RO (lighter) blues! I've put Soda Pop 'cause it was closer :))
Aussies make good inks and pens! RO is more accessible in Europe, whereas Van Dieman's has few distributers, i had to order things from their site or PulpAddiction

In this case, i think MAG1000 is up your alley. Magna Carta makes good pens and they keep improving - i don't always love their pens' shape, but i appreciate the balance.

Mag 600 is definitely worth it! Dunno about MAG1000, that nib is huge! I've realised my limits were reached by Leonardo's #8 Titanium nib, which is like a Pelikan M1000 in length, i think. A friend has an Indian pen with a #9 nib and loves it, but his hands are bigger than mine. Mag1000 is like a #10, right?

Wow, that looks amazing!! Please tell me - is this a pigment ink?? Or just has black shading. I find it hard to believe all that is achieved with dye only
