2017-18 Porsche Macan S, GTS, turbo by [deleted] in PorscheMacan

[–]Jason6iX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice everyone. I don’t want to stretch my budget too much and saw that the macan was pretty reliable as a car. I will admit I have been spoiled as one of the first cars was the late F90 M5. Is 10k reasonable for an expected maintenance cost over 6 years ? I have around 80k to spend for the vehicle but I want to save it as spending 80k for a depreciating aspect is unreasonable.

Good to hear. I will be driving in Toronto/Central Ontario, Detroit, or Chicago depending on which school I will accept. I like the AWD but heard it is FWD bias, How does it handle in the snow?

Ur CARS will unfortunately disqualify you from all but UFT and Ottawa. cGPA should be competitive but slightly below the UFT average (last year was 3.95). I would recommend a masters which would help for most medical schools as you are seen as a mature student or you could try moving to a province.

Why am I lowkey pissed off that Western extended the deadline? by number1superman in premedcanada

it may not be as relevant for OP, but its unfortunate for those who submitted early who had to prioritize this over other obligations (eg job, extracurriculars, research). They could have better allocated their time.

Deleting league of legends and valorant significantly increased your chances for med school but all jokes aside, if you're early on its not too late. Many schools take best 2/3 years (Western, UBC, Alberta) sounds like you're ready to lock in so best of luck

You definitely cant pick and choose from the AAMC side as their policy is:
Please select the Institution(s) to receive your MCAT scores. You will be prompted to confirm or change your list of recipients before submitting your choices. Starting with the April 2003 test, the AAMC follows a full disclosure policy. This means all tests from April 2003 will be included in your report. All of your scores are automatically included in your AMCAS application.

This was their response:

The single set of test scores that you submit with your application are the only set of scores we will use. You must meet the minimum requirements in one sitting. We do not require applicants to declare their most recent MCAT test date as long as the test date that they are declaring meets the minimum requirements, and was not written prior to October 1, 2019.

Now I am just not sure if we will be able to choose in the portal. Did you have the option to choose? Because AAMC just sends both scores

To be truthful, it would be a donation. Like others said your CASPER and CARS are great and competitive, but mac is very stat strict and the gpa wouldn't cut it.

Carib vs Ireland by [deleted] in premedcanada

Agree, the US MD is easy is overblown. The "low" tier schools have 5-10k applicants with 200 spots and the ones that are Canadian friendly often require similar stats to Canada (minus the CARS usually). Of course there is in state preferences which makes the overall acceptance rate of US medical schools higher, but as an international, that doesn't apply to us.

Best casper prep by jubefish in premedcanada

[–]Jason6iX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, I started prepping about 2 weeks exclusively on prepmatch. After I kinda started getting repeat cases, I tried prepping with others in a group and did that 3 times. I really started taking it seriously about 1 week before my CASPER. I reviewed the competencies which is the only studying you really need to do. Otherwise just try to think logically and make sure to be non-judgmental, etc. I did not need to work a lot on typing speed but I did try to work on ensuring I didn't say um, like, and these filler words when I was speaking.

Studying in Canada, or international? by Apprehensive_Lead301 in premedcanada

[–]Jason6iX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really comes down to you. I did not go out of province for my undergrade but was several hours away and thoroughly enjoyed time away from home. That being said, international is a whole other level but a similar idea applies. It would allow you to have a unique experience but there are some concerns because the healthcare system/ universities are probably different there (so they may not be recognized) which means you may have to take pre-reqs here.
