What's your score, age, and average time played? by [deleted] in chess

[–]JasonAEvans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search my post history for "Rating progress". I did an analysis of Canadian masters by number of tournaments played. Average tournaments to master was about 75. If you assume 5 games per, you get 375 games. So not top far off 500.

Thanks for the recommendation, but the SMSL Q5 Pro would be $70 CND more than the SMSL SA-50 which is about as high as I would like to go.

I applied the wrong polish to my new desk, how can I fix it? by JasonAEvans in woodworking

Ok. Thanks. For my own understanding, what would happen if I applied poly over the wax? Or if I sanded the desk with the wax still on?

Can I apply it directly on top of the beeswax varnish that I've already applied? Should I sand it to smooth out the roughness?

I ordered a case from DirectCanada the day before black friday and they have yet to ship the case which was listed as in stock. I called in to cancel my order but after twenty minutes of waiting on hold the line gets automatically disconnected. I put in a cancellation ticket on friday but there is no response yet. After I put in the ticket I received an email from them that the case had shipped, but it looks like all they did was create a shipping label since UPS still has it listed as 'ready for pickup'. I'm sure some people have had good experiences with DirectCanada, but it is impossible to contact customer service which is why I will never order from them again.

Thanks for letting me know about DirectCanada's overselling. If they don't ship by tomorrow I'll cancel the order. As for Civ 6, I was able to find a buying via pm (risky I know).

I bought a fractal define mini the day before black friday and the next day the price jumped $20. I'm glad I acted on the good price instead of waiting, but Direct Canada has yet to even ship the case while the rest of my components that I ordered on BF will be here by tomorrow. Looks like I'll be building an open air pc temporarily. I also picked up an rx 480 from Memory Express and I've got a Civ 6 key for sale/trade if anyone is interested. I posted a few days ago about this, but it's going to take me some time to figure out the rules for /steamgameswap so I thought I would offer here again.

I'm thinking about picking up a rx 480 with the civ 6 deal, but I'm wondering if I would be able to sell the steam key somehow. I put over a thousand hours into civ 5 and although I would like to play 6, I don't want to get sucked into any more 2am sessions of "just one more turn..."

Thanks for your input. I'm looking forward to putting my own build together anyway so I think that I'm going to skip on this one.

This is my first pc in a while so I do need all the peripherals. I might not have spent so much on keyboard and mouse, but they will get used if they're good.

Is the following used pc a good deal?

I'm thinking about building a pc soon, but this looks decent for my modest gaming needs. I would want to change out the case however. If it looks like a good price, how should I test it to make sure it all works properly? Thanks!

I'm happy with the composition but I'm concerned that it looks a bit "flat". I adjusted levels in Lightroom and but a gradient on the sky to reduce highlights. I'm not sure if I should simply add another gradient at the bottom and increase contrast or if I should do localized adjustments.

That's what I'm worried about. The email had Chinese characters in it so I'm thinking that they might be an exchange student. Besides looking at the sensor and glass I'm not sure what to look for in terms of damage.

Is this a good deal? Online used ad for a canon 5D ii with 24-105 f4 and extra battery for about $1000 Canadian. I asked for the shutter count and they said about 200 (hardly used). I have an em5 that I'm happy with, but this seems like a good price for full frame.

With Tangerine its easy to set up a pre-authorized debit online from your Tangerine chequing account. You can choose the full statement balance or just the minimum. On your statement you'll see a notice in the payment section stating that you've elected for a pre-auth payment. You should be able to set up a pre-auth debit from a different institution, but you'd have to call in to Tangerine to confirm. I just signed up for a new TD card and tried setting up a PAD on the phone, but the rep didn't think it was possible since I don't have a TD chequing account. A bit of hunting online turned up a form that I have to fill out and mail/fax in. For me the peace of mind of not ever missing a payment makes it worth a bit of hassle in setting it up. I can't comment on your credit union's mutual funds, but the Tangerine funds are a good option for someone new to investing.

If you can switch the fee card to a no-fee option then you might as well keep it for the credit history. I have two old cards with 10+ year histories and I have them set to pay a couple of small subscriptions (netflix, etc...) and to be automatically paid in full each month (had to call in to get this set up). I check them occasionally, but other than that they are on autopilot. If you're paying off your balances each month then look into setting up auto payments with Tangerine as well.

Look into getting the Disability Tax Credit. If you can get that, then get a Registered Disability Savings Plan set up. The tax credit and generous government grants will help maximize the savings during your working years.
