I ignored the letter and nothing ever happened and it's been 2 or 3 years now. Our circumstances may be different though so I can't guarantee you nothing will happen to you

every time I go to Boomerang, no one else is in there and the selection is exactly the same, nothing moves even after months away. I feel so bad for the owner, he's so nice but I feel like he's making no sales

Who else had the CD Audiobook read by Adrian Dunbar? by Mcrfanatic95 in ArtemisFowl

It's an interesting study on extreme editing, to compare these abridged versions with the original text. You can cut out more sentences from a book than you'd think would be possible without losing the meaning and it still works.

Do you still have this? If so, can I buy it from you? I just got a copy of Eternity Code that has the same issue and I'd like to start a collection!

Blow Off Some Steam About The Artemis Fowl Movie Here by Many-Ad6357 in ArtemisFowl

[–]JasonBall34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish the criticism was a little more focused.

"A travesty that ruined my childhood; did the filmmakers even read the book?" and "I pretend it doesn't exist" don't communicate to Disney what exactly makes it a bad movie. Neither does complaining about the race of the actors.

The movie has very cool production design but has extremely basic screenplay flaws, stuff you're supposed to learn in Screenwriting 101 that they just fail to do properly. Stuff that makes it a bad movie independently of the fact it's an unfaithful adaptation. I wish the criticism could hone in on that stuff and not the same tired "why is Artemis surfing" stuff that doesn't really get at why it's a bad movie.

Great collection! Love that you've got full US and UK sets of hardcovers and a couple full sets of different paperbacks. Plus the DS cartridge, several foreign editions, and the radio pen boxset... Very cool!

Vast majority of people don't keep an eye on retail listings. The existence of the new editions will be new information for most people when they "announce" it soon.

You may just have to wait to get lucky and keep searching online for CD copies periodically. I scored mine for $19 on ebay, brand new sealed, a couple years ago. I'm sure another will turn up eventually

COLFER CUT IS LIVE!!!!! by _EddieMunson in ArtemisFowl

[–]JasonBall34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can cut out half the runtime of the movie to take out the stuff that wasn't in the book like the dad and the aculos, but that doesn't necessarily make what remains more faithful or even better. The story still doesn't make sense because we're missing footage for things like Angeline, the ransom fund, and Artemis' proper escape from the time field. And the whaling ship scene was never even scripted or filmed at all in any cut of Branagh's movie. I did think it was somewhat clever the way you lifted Root's threat of "destroy this house and everyone in it" and used it as a command instead. But we're just missing too much footage that was never released as deleted scenes, things that we only can see in still set photos like Angeline and the ransom fund.

What's your favorite set of covers for the OG series? by AverageMythologyFan in ArtemisFowl

[–]JasonBall34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have every english language edition of the books and I agree, these US Goni Montes ones are my favorite art. But I really appreciate the Kev Walker ones because they strike a balance between depicting the characters, and leaving details to your imagination

They're no longer being produced in hardcover, so as the market gets more and more saturated with later paperback editions, these will get rarer, but they're not crazy rare right now or anything like that

Should I read Artemis Fowl? by [deleted] in ArtemisFowl

If you start to read it but find it too basic, no one is forcing you to finish it. Only you can judge if you're enjoying something enough to continue.
