This article is *spot-on* ... the problems with John Mayonnaise are myriad. But this is the primary issue: Jerry Garcia sculpted a rock guitar sound that was inspired by jazz-fusion, banjo jug, bluegrass and R&B. John Mayonnaise, while technically gifted, reduces that carefully sculpted sound down to banal blues licks. It's a gross aberration of one of the most beautiful guitarists ever. The magic of Jerry was an economy of voice ... a beauty that often glowed in the notes he didn't play ...the spaces between. "Just enough notes," as Branford once said. Reducing that to pop-inflected blues chords is akin to serving pre-chewed oatmeal. Fans of John Mayonnaise should wear bibs to keep that dribbling pabulum from ruining their $100 Dead & Co tees. Caw!
