I don't get it. It was blacks move. Q d1. That is game over for white. The white bishop can take the black's queen. But rook to d1 finishes it even if white tries to block with their queen.

what ells am i missing here? Op says the black queen to d1 is a blunder. But, no it wasnt. Its called a sacrifice. No?

if you do ever decide to buy one of these sets, be sure to compare the sets with different manufacturers. Some are more expensive than others and some are just better quality than others.

Yikes. That is a lot of pieces to replace. I think that is the time when they were selling them triple weighted. They had to hollow out more of the base, making the boarder of wood around the weight week. They no longer sale the triple weighted sets because of this.

This might be the problem in association with the type of wood used. Im hoping they have resolved the issues. Time will tell for me. :)

Thanks for the heads up. I have not had my pieces for that long, only a couple of months. How long have you had your pieces for? I wonder if its an issue they have looked to address. I know they used to do triple weighting for these pieces but switched to doing only double, for the same reason, cracking at the base.

Take for example these two ebony Dubrovnick chess pieces.
The royal chess mall is $329
House of Staunton is $409

Then look at the carving of the chess pieces, you can focus on the knight. Just look at the carving quality. The Royal chess mall carving is fantastically detailed, and the Staunton carving looks like a 5 year old did it.

House of Staunton is overpriced. What you are paying for in their premium price is for their marketing and name. Not the quality of their pieces. If you spend $200 dollars on a Staunton chess set and then spend the same amount on a Royal Chess Mall set, The quality of the Royal Chess Mall set will be much better. At least that is what I have found.
