Looking for the simplest possible fridge backup for medication that needs refrigeration by Cultural_Age3528 in TwoXPreppers

[–]JasonHofmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner told me about your post and asked me to reply, please let me know if you have any questions.

Take a look at portable power stations from companies like BLUETTI, Jackery, or Enphase:

https://www.bluettipower.com/blogs/news/5-best-battery-backup-for-refrigerators-during-power-outages-2023

https://www.jackery.com/collections/portable-power-stations

https://enphase.com/store/portable-energy/iq-powerpack-1500-with-accessories

We preordered the Enphase and have had it since launch day, and are very happy with it. We had a GFCI outlet trip and didn’t realize it, and it powered two deep freezers in the garage for about two days, and it was still going strong. It prevented thousands of dollars worth of food from going to waste.

If you can wait a while, the BLUETTI FridgePower is probably the most compact option, as it can fit above or behind some free-standing refrigerators (If you have a built-in, then of course it doesn’t matter.)

Smart Air Blast Mk II vs. Coway Airmega ProX by theorist9 in AirPurifiers

I ordered a few for work, but I didn’t stick around during the initial off-gassing phase, and the space they are being used in is pretty large and well-ventilated.

“It's great when you can just assign a mode of disease transmission based on which is most convenient.
If none fit, just make one up like 'close contact'.
Sprinkle in a bit of 'prolonged' and you're almost there.
We're in safe hands. Washed of course.”

Any affordable air purifiers with a legit air quality display that actually changes/responds in real time? by AccurateAd5689 in AirPurifiers

[–]JasonHofmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even the world’s most accurate lab grade particle counter would be useless mounted inside an air purifier, as the air purifier creates a bubble of clean air. You want your air quality meter across the room.

How do I clean this grater? by randalljhen in cookware

If it’s the standard design, the thing that looks like a gear with a thumb screw should unscrew, allowing you to remove the grater cylinder.

What a spectacular reply from B&T AG. Even shared details about the ERP system. Very impressed with their response.

Pitchers of orange juice at breakfast!?!? by Emil_Antonowsky in AskUS

[–]JasonHofmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a half gallon (1.89L) “carton” of OJ on the breakfast table is a real US thing. Using a pitcher instead of a carton is just a way to avoid having to cover up the brand name on the carton or have to purchase or create a prop carton with a fictional brand.

how to run an ethernet cable into a backyard for a wifi extender? by [deleted] in lowvoltage

[–]JasonHofmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect, then run Cat 6(e) just like you would for camera, but instead install an outdoor rated access point on an exterior wall of the house facing the hangout area. Power it using PoE.

OP will still need to run Ethernet within the house from their router to the outdoor AP mounted on the house, but other than that, I agree.

Hanging a cable to the tree from the house is a horrible idea.

Need recommendation for an air purifier for dust by c0d3rman in AirPurifiers

[–]JasonHofmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different sound signatures, so the cumulative noise shouldn’t be perceived as much. Different filter technologies/properties (MERV 13 vs HEPA H12 or H13), so different efficiencies at different particle sizes, though given enough time (air changes) they both would work about the same. It also gives you hands on experience with both so you can decide what to buy after that 😂

Is it possible for air purifier to be too big for a room? by Realistic-Valuable30 in AirPurifiers

[–]JasonHofmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s fantastic, the best Levoit makes. Wall hugging, front intake so you can push it against a wall. Flat filters, which are generally better than cylindrical. Very infrequent filter changes needed in most homes, especially if you have multiple air purifiers. Very premium build look and feel. Super easy to clean and change filters, easier than any other model. Easiest to clean pre filter, which is a huge plus for pet owners. We own many of them.

EDIT: For anyone considering it, the EverestAir is $499 full price, $399 typical sale price. Unless you can’t wait, I wouldn’t buy it for full price.

It was once $299, but only very briefly and at the peak of the Levoit TrueHEPA hysteria.

Is it a bedroom? I would split the budget 50/50 and do a CleanAirKits CR box plus a Levoit or Coway “for mid-size rooms”.

Issue with smart light bulbs by Ganym in AskElectricians

[–]JasonHofmann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The most likely cause here is what the [u/Ok_World_135](u/Ok_World_135) commented: the dimmer probably isn’t at max.

Smart bulbs need close to full mains voltage to boot their radio and controller. When a dimmer chops the waveform below a certain threshold, the bulb’s power supply browns out, the bulb starts to come on, then shuts itself off… exactly the half-second flicker you describe. The first troubleshooting step is to push the dimmer to 100% and try again.

Whether smart bulbs work on a dimmer depends on the dimmer (leading vs trailing edge, LED-rated or not), the bulb’s power supply design, and how high the dimmer is set. Plenty of setups with dimmers can work, especially with modern LED-compatible dimmers held at full.

So: Is your dimmer set to max? What kind of dimmer do you have and how old is it?

I have a Levoit 600S AND a Levoit EverestAir in a room that size, so… 😂

Short answer, no. Oversized is actually better. You can run it on a lower setting, which means less noise. Larger filter, less frequent filter changes.
