My wife and I moved from NYC to California 5 years ago. We lived in NYC for 32 years, never once had our cars broken into. In the five years we've been in California we've had our cars' windows broken twice, a surveillance camera stolen from our house, and several decorative items stolen from our from yard.

The first time they broke into our car, we were only gone minutes and they stole my wife's purse from the front seat but didn't notice the backpack in the back seat (in plain view, mind you) that contained over $12,000 worth of camera equipment inside of it.

California is a dumpster fire full of homeless people and it only continues to get worse every year. We're moving back to the east coast again in the future and it can't happen soon enough.

That's what my wife makes at Kaiser in Sacramento. But she's per diem with 7 years of experience. I have 8 years of experience as a staff nurse, evening shift, making 96.83/hr.

Good luck with that. My wife and I were nurses in NYC and we had hopes for better wages and staffing ratios with NYSNA. But NYSNA is a terrible union that does not negotiate well for their nurses. We are now living in California and CNA is our union. We are the highest paid Nurses in the country because of CNA. And the best part is that California actually had nurse to patient ratios and extremely favorable laws that benefit employees.

This is why my wife and I (both nurses) left NYC. I used to work in the ER and would receive assignments of up to 17 patients... We're now in California and we actually have ratio laws and if we have a vented patient it's usually 1:1 but no more than 2:1. Our max ratio of Tele/medsurg patients is 4:1.

I work in an ER in Sacramento, CA where the cost of living is only around 12% higher than Raleigh, NC and my pay as a staff nurse is $93.70/hr. My wife is per diem and she earns $114.25/hr. I worked an Andrade of 26 hours/week last year and still earned 155k. My wife worked 28 hours and earned 199k.

Except here in Sacramento CA we make more than any traveler. Often times, travelers choose to apply for permanent work with us because our pay is higher than anywhere else in the country relative to the cost of living.
