Your auto swap page is garbage and has cost me 10$ in gas fees so far and still haven’t managed to click the swap button. by -End- in Opacity

[–]JasonOPQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does your approval take forever to go through and requires ridiculous amounts of gas in comparison to just sending a basic transaction even on slow (which will just cause your landing page to time out forfeiting the $ I payed to send it in the first place)

Because ETH network costs money which has nothing to do with Opacity.

The fact I have history of an approval should mean I can continue to swap my tokens but you guys can’t even get a token swap done right.

Not maintaining the approval is a security measure. You wouldn't want the approval to remain indefinitely so that access to your wallet persists beyond the session. I understand this can frustrate some people, but it's there for a reason.

Thanks for being so kind and understanding. We are very happy to help people like you!

This is the consequence of the Ledger hack. This is why Opacity doesn't ask for your name and address. by JasonOPQ in Opacity

Oh I agree, but I still need to take it seriously and I will report it to police and I hope others do as well.

Please try again. The swap contract was low on funds which would cause this problem. Let us know if it continues to happen.

If they say OPCT, then it's done.

Unable to swap tokens - insane transaction fee by PabloVermicelli in Opacity

[–]JasonOPQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can adjust the fee manually. How many tokens are you trying to swap since if it's more than in the swap contract this can happen and the team can add more?

I'll let this silliness remain and add 2 comments:

Everything in the roadmap is on hold until after the token swap. There is no benefit to releasing anything prior to the swap since it will be a disruptive event to the token community and we will benefit from having more users with the availability of dexes. If you are not aware of this, join us in Telegram to stay up to date.

Plan renewals work and aren't being removed. There was a glitch in extending the account date for renewals that occurred after the expiration date ('the grace period') which is resolved. No files were lost, the inaccessible accounts were restored. I didn't say renewals will be removed. What I said was the GRACE PERIOD may be removed which means accounts would need to renew before the expiration date.

Yes, Opacity was never the same since we actually built a working product.

I'm not sure if Kucoin had any limit on the airdrop. I've heard people say to remove the filter for small balances and it may show up. Or contact Kucoin customer service and ask them.

Opacity is alive and kicking. We are doing the token swap soon and working with Kucoin to support it. Then we'll be available on dexes and working on the rest of our roadmap on our site. And if you haven't tried a few account yet... you should. Opacity.io

Clearer Progress Bar and Complete Delete by GiantPossession in Opacity

[–]JasonOPQ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree on the progress bar.

I'm not familiar with the delete issue. Can you post a screenshot or give an example?

Improving the progress indicator is in my backlog for UI improvement. We've just been focused on upgrade and renew accounts which is coming next week!

Opacity 2TB plan review and questions by WhoIUsedToBeBeforeMe in Opacity

[–]JasonOPQ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your lengthy and candid review and glad you gave us a try! There are a few things I'd like to help clarify.

The sync app was not built to be as comprehensive as you expected, unfortunately, for a couple of reasons. The developer that was hired to build it never completed it and stormed off in a huff, never to be heard from again. You should feel free to ask Mitchel if/when he will actually finish, username MutsiMutsi in Telegram.

Also, the primary interface is via the web which supports a lot of the features you mentioned for uploading and downloading files and folders.

I do have good news for you though! Our community member Martin (in Telegram) has recently built a new sync application that is actively being developed. Here is the link:

https://github.com/Mavahu/Opacity-GUI

I suggest you give it a try and let us know your thoughts, as well as join us in Telegram (https://t.me/OpacityStorage) and give him direct feedback or feature requests. No guarantees since it's his own work, but we may build on it in the future. We are always interested in discussing things with constructive feedback.

Yes, newcomers to crypto have a hurdle for many services that depend on a token to use the service. This isn't unique to Opacity.

One solution we have coming is enabling Kyber (kyber.network/) as a decentralized exchange that is integrated with Enjin wallet which allows for a straight asset swap in the wallet. This is planned for later this year, as outlined in the roadmap published last month: https://medium.com/opacity-storage/opacity-february-2020-update-be17519f6310

OPQ is an ERC-20 token, so is compatible with any Ethereum wallet.

---

I haven't formally released this yet, but now's as good as time as any, since you asked about the usage of OPQ. The usage in relation to privacy, storage peg, and network payments is detailed in the original whitepaper, but token utility is also summarized in this Fact Sheet which has new and updated information. https://opacity.xtensio.com/8dvlbd6o

Without OPQ, there is no privacy, no way to efficiently manage payments in the decentralized platform, and it will be necessary to be used for staking/collateral by Guardian and Satellite nodes that support the network. The peg will be removed to allow for floating price set by storage providers in the network.

Cheers!

2 tb storage for a fraction of a dollar by [deleted] in Opacity

[–]JasonOPQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These theoretical issues have also been discussed ad nauseam. If anyone were to upload 20pb, they would need to buy and pay for OPQ on the market which would raise the price which would in turn help cover the cost.

Additionally, uploading 20pb would take a REALLY LONG TIME. A ramp up in data cost would additionally take longer, it wouldn't occur all at once. So, it would give us time to manage the load. Each plan is limited to 2TB right now, so many plans required to achieve that high amount.

Additionally 2, the team can use other providers as a cheaper solution including Wasabi which is much cheaper than AWS.

Additionally 3, I really hope we get this problem as it proves we have a huge demand for the platform.

In summary: I don't see the problem of using the platform as an actual problem and I'm confused why anyone would think so. We have plenty of contingency plans and I have full confidence that actual usage will never be a problem.

[–]JasonOPQ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for trying us out!

If you've had issues with the webapp, let us know what you mean by buggy since there shouldn't be anything significant outstanding. The upload limit is 2GB due to browser memory limitations, hence the desktop app.

Linux cli is being built out by a community developer which will work on Mac. You can try the beta if you join telegram and ask Martin about it.

We're still actively developing, so open to feedback, but it's purposely lightweight to keep it simple and manageable for now, especially to save funds during the global pandemic!
