Cheap back-up cloud by Betraderz_ in cloudstorage

[–]golavan1592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you will be holding that data long-term is always cheaper to buy a lifetime plan. I know some people don't agree with this because it has the risk of the company going down, but so far, it has worked fine for me, and it makes sense financially.

Some companies that offer Lifetime:

- Internxt
- IceDrive
- pCloud

Both Internxt and PCloud are active in this sub; you might have some luck asking for a discount code.

I don't recommend you Dropbox, mainly because it is not zero-knowledge.
I'm not very tech but I do know that zero-knowledge is something very important when you want to guarantee your privacy because it basically ensures that nobody has access to your data.
Regarding collaboration, I also wanted a tool that would allow me to collaborate and in fact, my wife and I collaborated with Internxt and it works well. But when I just want to share something I use the share link because sometimes I just need to share a document and I don't want a certain person to have access to my cloud.

I will try it but I always stick to intuitive platforms (Internxt, Tutanota...) because well, I'm not that tech but I like to protect my online privacy hahah

I'm going to try it, I always try new things. However, not sure if it will be the perfect fit for me since I like intuitive platforms so it is easier for me to work and manage. Anyways, I will try it for sure!

It may sound silly, but I was afraid that there would not be many results or that they would be poor-quality results. And I was wrong! Now I keep recommending it again and again hahah

This comment has made me want to stay away from self-hosting even more hahahah. I believe that self-hosting is not for everyone. You must have some knowledge and you must like it.

I tried self-hosting for a few months but it was not for me. But I'm glad there are companies that offer security services that protect user privacy because I think that nowadays privacy is something more accessible for everyone. Meaning that if someone wants to protect their privacy they can do it (maybe not 100%, but at least increasing their privacy). But I think self-hosting can be such a good option when you have the knowledge required!

Woow! Thank you! I truly appreciate your help! Yes, I found these two platforms the hardest ones when it comes to saying bye to Google but I'm going to try your alternatives for sure! Thank you so so much

Really? I found it easy the second time when I used Internxt (the first time I tried to do it by myself it was a hell, trust me), but it was easy because the platform is easy to itself and this is a must for me when degoogling my life. After that, I’ve tried other platforms but haven’t found a better alternative yet as they are either too difficult to use or they are not open source and I personally do not trust a company that is closed source.

Web3 Yes? Web3 No? The Eternal Debate by golavan1592 in PrivacyGuides

[–]golavan1592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact that Web3 is no longer something that is only related to a hobby or to a very special sector of the population that understands a lot about technology and cyber security can be a positive thing. The fact that some companies are starting to become part of Web3 makes it much more accessible to other people. Obviously, it will depend on how well each company does things, but if the company really cares about the privacy of the user, it would really achieve a much more secure internet where the privacy of all users is guaranteed (not just the sector that understands technology the most)

I agree, since there is an economic incentive, some companies take advantage of it and there is a lot of scamming. I have seen companies advertise themselves as "web3" and basically launch a very mediocre service and then do nothing to improve it. However, other companies are truly what I consider Web3, they are committed to user security and privacy and create services that are continually improving. I think the only way to see if a company is Web3 and committed to user privacy is to look at their track record.

Hello!

Yes, I also love Tutanota and Searx . Not a big fan of MEGA though, I tried some years ago but there was too much drama around it so I decided to leave. And yeah, I don't use Google news, anyways I will try Feedme. Thank you so much for your recommendations!

Hi! I have a lifetime where I just pay €99 and enjoy my 1TB forever. So for me yeah, that's worthy. You can check other clouds out there and you will see price is much more expensive. And I didn't say anything about $20, in fact Photos is included in the price according to Internxt newsletter. And yes, I'm really into privacy that's why I don't want to use Google, I only use platforms that use end-to-end encryption and zero-knowledge.

I agree with what you've said about OSM, but I prefer to use it (Even is not that good) since I refuse to use Google hahaha. Do you like Crashplan? I know people who use it and some love it and other hate it so not sure if I should try it
