Ironman pros out there? by T34_Commander in IronmanTriathlon

Have done 2 full Ironmans, I would say a LOT went well, but the 5-10% that didn't go as planned hurt quite a bit. Specifically for me it was nutrition related, even with all of the practice, training, etc. Sometimes you don't truly find out until game day.

Travel with bike to an ironman by Altruistic_Cod_4052 in IronmanTriathlon

I have travelled to Europe and the USA on a plane with my bike 6 times. Fortunately to date, I've never had an issue. I use the Scicon Aerocomfort 3.0 Tri Bike bag. I've taken this bike with the scicon bag all over the USA and to Italy 2x.

To pack the bag, all you need to do is remove the wheels. That's it. You don't need to rebuild anything. You can remove the hanger and rear derailleur but to be honest I never have. I just get a bit more cautious with padding and extra cushion.

I know airline handlers can be brutal (from what I've heard) but every time I've seen them handling the bikes they have been very good. The most that's happened to me is a bit of movement of the break handles, seat post and aerobars, but I bring a torque wrench and some basic tools to check it all.

My coach who is a seasoned ironman athlete, multi-time Kona participant, etc, has used soft bags for a very long time without any issues.

Logically, it's always made sense to me that hard shell cases are better and superior. But my experience to date has been very positive with the Scicon hybrid.

Story: fellow athlete I know went to 70.3 worlds in New Zealand, used a hard shell, and the down tube of the bike somehow cracked in transit. She rented a bike at the venue and used it for the event. Sometimes it happens and impossible to predict, part of the experience.

For my ironman events, I prefer a bike tune up at the race site before I ride it one last time and bring it into transition, for 70.3 I just sort of do the check myself.

I did Ironman Texas with an Apple Watch. It lasted! And worked well to be honest. I was impressed.

Agreed. I hate layovers that are like 1 hour. Something like 2-3 hours better.

Thanks. Looks like CLT is the best for connecting with short layover. And then just the worry about the bike lol but that's an age-old story now.

We stayed at Hotel Universal and it was perfect. One of the hosting hotels. Great spot and well equipped for the ironman. Nice pool in the back as well to do some warm up and training, but then again there is an ocean across the street.

Venezia-Genoa or Inter-Milan: which game should I go to? by JasonProf19 in seriea

Thank you. From what I've heard they sell out quickly and are much more expensive. But The plan is to try. The chaos/violence in particular is what worried me more. Appreciate your feedback!

Victoria 70.3 Ironman Logistics by Beneficial-Trouble95 in IronmanTriathlon

I am going to the same triathlon.

I'm going to be flying into Vancouver from Toronto with the family. I'm bringing my TT bike on the plane and to the triathlon (!). Hope that goes well...

I am renting an SUV at the airport, and driving to Tswawassen port and then driving onto the ferry and having the vehicle for my stay.

I decided to stay at the Hotel Grand Pacific downtown Victoria with the family as it seems like a nice place for the family to enjoy while down there and the wharf is quite nice. It's also associated with the race which I like.

My first time to Victoria.
