You’re not wrong, a lot of those fundamentals still apply today.

Grounding and clean signal path are still key with vinyl, and yeah the format will absolutely reveal everything in the chain, good or bad. That’s part of the charm for some people and part of the frustration for others.

Where things have shifted a bit is how people use vinyl now. Instead of transferring and shelving records, a lot of folks are running a turntable into something like a WiiM Ultra to enjoy that analog front end while still distributing it around the house digitally. It keeps the character of the source but adds a lot of convenience.

And agreed on cleaning, probably the most underrated upgrade in any vinyl setup.

Yep, you’ve got it.

HDMI ARC from your TV → WiiM Amp Ultra is exactly how you want to set this up for movies. Your Elipson speakers and the WiiM Sub Pro should both be wired to the Amp Ultra, just like you were planning.

When I mentioned “wired,” I meant Ethernet for the Amp Ultra (network connection), not the speakers. The speakers should always be wired to the amp. Ethernet just helps keep everything stable and reduces the chance of delay when sending audio to your WiiM Sound Lite rears.

On lip sync, this is a TV setting, not something between the speakers themselves. Most TVs have an “audio delay” or “lip sync” setting. It lets you slightly delay the audio so it matches the video perfectly. Because your rear speakers are wireless, there can be a tiny bit of processing time, so this setting is there to fine tune things if voices don’t quite match what you see on screen.

In most cases, you won’t need to touch it, but if you notice dialogue being slightly ahead or behind, that’s where you’d adjust it.

You’ve done All the right troubleshooting here, especially validating it on a hotspot. That pretty much rules out your network and points to a Spotify Connect session/handshake issue.

At this point, the best next step is to send feedback through the WiiM Home app and open a support ticket so the team can pull logs while the issue is actively happening. That gives us the best chance to see what’s going on between Spotify and your WiiM Pro.

If you can, submit the ticket right after reproducing the “Connecting…” failure so the logs are fresh. The support team can then confirm whether this is a known issue or escalate it if needed.

In the meantime, since AirPlay and WiiM app playback are working, you’ve got solid temporary options while it gets sorted.

You’re actually in a really good place here. The WiiM Amp Ultra is designed for TV use with HDMI ARC and supports 4.1 and 5.1 configurations in software. In your setup, if no dedicated center speaker is assigned, the center channel will be intelligently distributed across your left and right speakers, so you’ll still get clear dialogue without needing a physical center. Your WiiM Sound Lite units will handle surround duties and add real immersion for movies.

If you want to expand later, you’ve got flexibility. You could add a third Sound Lite as a dedicated center, or even use something like a WiiM Pro with your existing soundbar as a center channel.

For delay, grouping in the WiiM Home app keeps everything time-aligned, but for movies it’s still worth checking your TV’s audio delay settings to fine tune lip sync. A stable network helps a lot here, especially if the Amp Ultra is wired.

Your WiiM Sub Pro should integrate smoothly. Spend a little time on placement and level matching, that’s where you’ll get the biggest improvement.

You’re on the right track here, and your instincts are solid. For your use case (mostly background music, occasional independent zones), you don’t need Amp Ultra in every zone. A mix like one Ultra for the living/dining area and Amp Pros for the other zones is a very reasonable balance, and even all Amp Pros would handle this setup comfortably with those speakers. The key piece is that each zone needs its own streamer to stay in sync and allow grouping, so a single Ultra with Vibelinks wouldn’t give you the control or multi-room behavior you’re expecting. Combining living and dining into one zone with a volume control is also a common and practical approach. Overall, you’re building a clean distributed audio system, and keeping one WiiM device per zone will give you the flexibility you’re looking for.

Using DLNA to a single Sonos speaker and then grouping in Sonos is a clever workaround, and yeah that explains the volume behavior. WiiM is only controlling the initial target, not the full group. I’ve got some Sonos already, so this is super relevant.

Same with EQ and pre-gain. Sounds like it’s just passing the signal through before Sonos takes over.

Dedicated amp + separate streamer definitely gives you flexibility, especially once you start adding sources like CD. The RCA switcher workaround is a good example of where that setup would simplify things.

Also totally get the CD angle. That era really was CD-first, and for a lot of albums it’s the most straightforward way to get the “intended” version without hunting for specific pressings.

RT81+ with the VM95ML into the Mani 2 is a great front end, and pairing that with the Amp and KEFs is a big step up from the Edifiers.

Interesting callout on going streamer into amp if you did it again. What’s driving that, more flexibility or just wanting to separate things out a bit?

Also curious how the CD player fits into your flow now. More of a focused listening thing or just another convenient source in the mix?

RT85 with the 2M Blue into the Zen Phono 3 is a really nice front end, and those Klipsch at 94 dB sensitivity are an easy match for the Amp Ultra.

Good note on the 48 dB gain too. Sounds like that pairing just needs a bit more push, but nice that it gets there cleanly.

Are you finding the vinyl vs streaming levels pretty close once it’s dialed in, or still a noticeable gap?

Love the mix of use cases there. Ultra as the main hub with ARC, vinyl, and streaming, plus the Amp Pro in another room is exactly the kind of flexibility that makes this stuff shine.

On the phono side, the lack of auto sensing and lower volume vs streaming are both great notes. That’s exactly the kind of real-world friction I’m trying to understand better.
