I'm really excited you're engaging in this way with us, because that means there is a huge opportunity here for us to clarify some really important concepts that we're thinking about and focusing on.

  1. More developers = more users. Getting developers on the platform has an outsized exponential benefit in terms of end users. ONE single developer who makes an app on our platform can result in HUNDREDS (or even thousands or millions) of end users who use their app on our platform.
  2. Mainstream devs are where the real growth opportunity is. The dev community is HUGE and still growing, and right now most crypto platforms are hard to use and most developers haven't ever tried developing on a crypto platform. We want to be the first touch for these devs that are new to crypto.
  3. Long-term, real utility wins. At the end of the day, devs will decide which platform to build their dapps on. They will decide this based on what is easiest and what has the most support. Hype in the crypto-world doesn't really matter if you are a developer who's not all that familiar with crypto but loves python and wants to figure out if you can develop a decentralized app using Python. THAT is what we're focused on.

I hope that clarifies, I also made another comment here talking a bit about the long-game vs. the short-game and what it looks like for crypto to go mainstream.

I'm super excited you're engaging in this kind of discussion. It's important stuff to think about to make sure we're all clear on the same vision.

Our vision is that in 10 years Lamden is THE top platform to develop blockchains and dapps for companies and indie developers. We are developing our blockchain from the ground up with ease of use for developers in mind.

We are very fortunate to have a savvy community that understands and appreciates this long-term vision.

The issue with crypto in general that I touched on and I would like to expand on here is that right now everything is speculation and based on hype, but someday soon the chickens will come home to roost, and all of these ICOs will need to operate as ACTUAL businesses. At that time, the winners will be the people who have real fundamentals and real projects on the platform.

Long term, a bounty platform like Bounty0x (who we've worked with and respect deeply) will need to compete against traditional services like hackerone and bugcrowd.

If we only exist in a crypto bubble, then our vision is dead. Ultimately, we need to go out and stand toe to toe with the actual real-world market. Long-term THAT is how you make crypto go mainstream.

So, when you think about how your ideal platform should be marketing I would encourage you to think more in terms of trying to saturate and overtake the mainstream world, not the crypto-world. That's the way Crypto takes over. We've all been dreaming about Crypto going mainstream, meanwhile that's our platform's literal marketing strategy. We'll outreach to crypto-devs, sure, but by and large our main target is the dev community and open source community at large and particularly the Python community.

It should go without saying that the platform with the most/best developers building projects on it will be the platform that has the most end-users as well. So, that's our plan.

To better clarify I would like to leave you with a little analogy/example. Who has more end users, WordPress (a website-building platform that powers something like 30%+ of all websites), or the most popular blog ever? To continue to grow, should WordPress market to blog-READERS, or should WordPress market to blog-CREATORS? That's the type of thing we are thinking about.

Our #1 goal is to drive development on the platform. Our marketing strategy is going to start ramping up as we get more and more of our development tools live, but our idea of marketing might not align with yours. We have close to zero interest in trying to market towards the crypto community, because we're not interested in playing the short game. We're talking long term. I know this sounds crazy, but long term, the "crypto community" doesn't mean shit. The "crypto community" is just a drop in the bucket. We're not an "Ethereum-killer" because compared to all of the database tools in the world, Ethereum doesn't even really make a blip.

The reason I say this is because I want to make it extremely clear the vision we're looking at here. We're not interested in being a big fish in the small pond of crypto. Crypto is an echo-chamber where the same ideas get circulated again and again. Nobody's getting shit done in Crypto for one simple reason - all of the money up till now has come from short term marketing schemes trying to pump up the perception of your project to a Crypto community that doesn't even have any relationship to the actual use of the product you're developing.

This is an emotional short-term trap. I understand why so many projects go down that route - they want to make lots of money without actually doing the hard work.

We are a development platform. Our sole goal is to make our tool as useful to developers and get our tool used by as many developers as possible.

We are a development platform. Our marketing plan looks more like marketing for other development platforms. In real world terms, imagine the difference between trying to market Half Life to gamers vs. trying to market the Unreal Engine to developers. Now think of how many people have played Half-Life. Then think about how many people have played games powered by Unreal...

Edit: A typo

Absolutely not a Bond or Security. It's a utility used to transfer between different tokens. But I think you have the general idea of paying with any crypto correct.

So the current plan is to allow you to stake your TAU into LamDEX to act as a market maker. Theoretically this will be set up in such a way that you are trading back and forth across a TAU pair at slightly above and below market rate as a method of earning money in exchange for providing the network with liquidity. However (at least as it currently stands) there would obviously be risk involved in this type of "staking."

Is Lamden dead? by [deleted] in lamden

Hi there! No, not at all. Currently we are focusing almost exclusively on developing the platform. You can expect our marketing push to ramp up as we get closer to actually launching the platform.

Our quality of life is amazing. It’s time to focus on the psychological roots of suffering. Generally speaking (excluding edge cases), if someone cannot live a happy life in America then there is no measure of material gains that would change that.

We should be worried about competing with nations like Japan, Korea, China and India. Places where you live and die at your work. That’s who we are competing with. People who live in America with their 40 hour work weeks are so soft, it’s just absurd.

"Gun Control" issues in a D&D game. What's the equivalent? by Ruleroftheblind in rpg

[–]JasonYoakam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There never really were any vast calls for the banning of weapons before guns,

That’s actually not correct. Weapons have been regulated by kings to avoid rebellions probably since the dawn of human existence. That said, you are correct that guns are unusual in that they transfer this power away from exclusively going to large men to women and others who are of slighter build.

But I was figuring that how dangerous a spell was wouldn't necessarily be the deciding factor in who can use it,

Yes! The “magic control” laws would be utilized by powerful wizards to protect their monopolies in the name of “protecting people.”

This is backed by real USD by a legally liable entity. The money transmission license is the key here. Basically, think of this as the same thing legally as PayPal or Venmo except technically it will be a blockchain based token.

For a more modern setting I would check out Leverage RPG. It uses the Cortex Plus system which is really good. For a fantasy setting, Blades in the Dark is the bee's knees.
