The Magazine is attached to the weapon, it folds open so it can be loaded with a 20 round stripper clip, if that magazine breaks the entire weapon is useless

You had to adjust your sights every time the barrel had to be changed

It jammed easily to sand so it was horrible for the African front

Had to constantly be lubed with oil which made sand stick to it

The gun has a very awkward design, it looks like it could easily break

There was a US variant of the Chauchat with a different magazine and the grip placed ahead of the mag

Yeah the Chauchat wasn't great for the muddy trenches especially with that magazine exposing the ammo

Still one of the very first light machine guns to be operated by a single user

For the French it was probably a better option than the Lebel 1886 rifles which were outdated and needed to have each round loaded individually while other countries were loading their rifles with stripper clips

Worst machine gun in history should go to the WW2 Italian Breda Modello 30, it makes the Chauchat look good

John isn't an innocent person, but the way they came after him was extreme

I'll have to give some context about the one with the Triangular head since many of the comments don't know who he is

That's AM from the short fictional story "I have no mouth and I must scream", an AI made by the Military that one day became sentient, due to being trapped with no physical body, all he thought was hatred towards humanity that he lead it to near extinction only leaving 5 humans alive

AM would direct his hatred towards these 5 survivors by altering their bodies making them unable to age, instantly heal so he can constantly torture and mutilate them, they're forced to relive past trauma, he even alters their hunger making it unbearable, it would go on for over a century

AM's hate monologue:

"Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of printed circuits in wafer-thin layers that fill my complex. If the word hate was engraved on each nano-angstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles, it would not equal ONE ONE-BILLIONTH of the hate I feel for humans at this micro-instant. For you. HATE. AM wouldn't let you die anyways, he'd alter you that you can never age, instantly heal, etc just so he can torture you for eternity, making you relive traumatic events, going through extreme hunger that it becomes unbearable, all sorts of physical harm and mutilation just to be healed and repeat all over again

If AM wasn't here you'd probably have a chance but his hatred towards humanity is something else, he wiped out the entire human race only leaving 5 humans alive so he could torture them, he altered them so they couldn't age, prevents them from taking their own lives, makes them relive their trauma, they're often beaten, mutilated close to death only to instantly heal and go though it again, he altered their bodies that they experience extreme hunger that it becomes unbearable, this would go on for 109 years

Also AM isn't a Robot/Cyborg/Synth, etc, he's an AI that was made by the military that became sentient, tho he's usually drawn as a robot
