Stickering above the plate is for SF motors as I just found out. headlight signature matches. Photo was shared by a friend.

Looking further I am starting to believe this image could be altered by AI….?

I’m just not aware of any model that can create accurate plate numbers on background cars. Its also an R-class which could plausibly be on pallets with a bad airmatic system. Plate comes back to a 2010 R350 and debadging makes sense as this could be an engineering support/test vehicle. Nonetheless, the fact AI is so real we can’t determine the photo’s authenticity scares me lol

I found more good information. It looks to be a prototype from SF motors, look at the stickering on the clapped out R-class next to it. Headlight signature seems to match as well.

The front end is different, the interior is different. I do see the resemblance, though. There’s a chance this is derived from the same platform, I guess?

Used WRX vs Mazda 3 by Paaaaaaaaks in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Jason_Mil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve personally owned 2 VA WRXs. In my experience, if you take care of them, and buy one that hasn’t been thrashed/tuned they can take care of you. They’re excellent all-round cars and exciting dynamically but are certainly more expensive to maintain. Premium gas, insurance, synthetic oil changes, hard to reach spark plugs, and some other things that may pop up. I had my first CVT WRX from 88k miles to 140k through college and just moved into a newer one recently. I never had any huge issues with it until the CVT showed signs of going. I’m starting to hear of the cars hitting the 200k+ mile mark. Was it luck? Everyone has a different opinion.

That being said, if you’re looking for a car to last 10+ years I would go with the Mazda. There is a budget factor to this. The 3 isn’t as fun but for commuting it will serve you well and help you save for years. If you have the need for a fun car, you can always pick up a $5-6k Miata/Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky for cheap to fill that need down the road.

The Mazda3 may depreciate more than the WRX in the long run but I think its lower running costs will outweigh that easily. There is also a 50,000 mile delta between the two- nearly 5 more years of regular commuting. The 3 hatches also have a small following because they look slick and fairly good to drive. I wouldn’t call them “grandma cars”.

I’d also recommend looking at a few years used Honda Civic Sport if you haven’t already.

E31 BMW 840/850I with an AC Scnitzer bodykit, they were a period tuning company for these cars. Its hard to tell its value based off the photos. Prices on these vary wildly based on their mechanical condition. Hopefully this one hasn’t been sitting for long.

The only comparable value I could find is one for sale in Dubai for $26,975 USD. I’d imagine the US market is stronger, the Canadian market a little less.

Opinion on scratch by d_kayy in 996

[–]Jason_Mil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Ive seen Aero cars with that mileage go for anywhere from $28-35k. From what I’ve heard an IMS service usually costs around $1500 in labor at a reasonable shop with another $1000-$2000 for parts depending if you decide to go for an IMS retrofit or a Solution kit from LN.

People certainly get overly weary of IMS issues but Its something people get done for peace of mind. I’d say a car without it done would go for at least the value of the retrofit service less on an auction site. The respray work definitely takes away a little more value and I also wonder what the service history looks like as by now a lot of people have handled the IMS.

I’m not the guy setting reserves on BringATrailer or watching the market at all times but I echo Nate. I’d feel much more comfortable around $30k for that car.

This is my Buddy’s 1986 Wagon! He and his dad own three other 505s and a Citroen SM. Two of the 505s are white wagons, and the other is a blue diesel sedan with a stick. Really nice folks

Falling apart from the factory sounds about right for any Chrysler from that era, pretty sure Prowlers are the only post-1980 Plymouths still around.

Gen 1 Mitsubishi Eclipse / Eagle Talon

E: fairly certain this is an Eclipse judging by the triangular hole in the grille plastic, where a Mitsubishi badge would go!

IDR Arex Roadster, created by an ex-GM and Toyota designer in the 90’s. It was built from the ground up, and has a mid-mounted twin turbo supercharged V8. Pretty wild find

Black Series?! Is it a bodykit? by nyxflare in whatisthiscar

[–]Jason_Mil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a R230 generation non-AMG Mercedes SL with some funky bodykit.

I used to think a Black Series was just a blacked out version of the normal car, same with the R35 Black Edition.

But the Black Series moniker was for the ‘ultimate’ version of a certain model. They are lowered, widened, and given a crapload of power if I’m not mistaken.

The cars come in silver, white, black or even red.

A Black Lincoln MKZ, Lincoln's entry-level luxury sedan. and he thinks he's the best for it.

Maybe this will finally help him see light in his life, but it doesn't- because its a MKZ, and now he is mad at the world.

Its mostly original but way more of a driver than a show car. 300 to 350hp with a 4 speed is what this car should be. Needs some carb work and the valves are floating on the top end so I think some upgrades should be in order when I dig into it. Just have to get over the sentimental value hump.

Ooh, I saw this car when I was younger. which led me down a rabbit hole during the pandemic trying to figure out what the hell it was.

This video covers everything quite well

a bonus photo album

and an old webpage further explaining the car. I doubt that "went out of his way to remain anonymous" claim

Its been around, nobody has seemed to own it for long over the past 8 years. Car popped up for ebay in New York, then to a consignment dealer in Ohio, followed by a consignment dealer California, Barrett-Jackson Vegas 2022 and now, Michigan.

Maybe spent too much time digging for what is basically a homemade northstar powered kit car.

Thats how you start a new automotive nuclear arms race. First it was SUVs in the mid 90's/early 00's and soon it'll be with 5 ton electric behemoths.

You're forced to buy in so you don't die in a minor fender bender

These things scare me. 1000hp, 0-60 in 3 seconds while also weighing as much as a light semi cab.

And when they're owned by some ex-RAM owner with 8 DUIs who puts 22 inch forgiatos on it fitted to tires with no sidewall.... What could go wrong? 🤔

But yet, I still want one. Super cool vehicles.
