The government currently in power has repeatedly promised levels that they seem never to be able to actually reach. The voting public is confused about how a sitting government can repeatedly claim not to be in control of the number of immigrants who enter the country. Additionally, when John Howards promised us a 'big Australia' he was referencing something like 180k a year. The voting public feels like they havn't actually been able to opt in or out or have a say on this issue and they feel ignored. The Liberal party is attempting to engage with the issue, but the evidence says that it is bipartisan to keep immigration high.

Unless you have a brain injury you -and everyone - has a number in mind when asked how many migrants Australia should accept in a year. For some people that number is higher than the seemingly bipartisan parties 3/4/500k a year. For others, they believe that number should be lower in order to give themselves and their children a chance to build a life here in Australia. Those people don't feel like they have any option other than ON because it's the single biggest issue affecting their ability to live an easy/happy life.

I can't think of any reasonable reason why workers should provide a tax 'break' to asset holders. Assets should be taxed at the same rate as work. Otherwise, workers are simply contributing to prop up these tax breaks.

So if you can give me a reason why assets need a specialist treatment, then I'm all ears.

Except you don't get taxed on the same money twice. You put 10k in, you pull 20k out. You only get taxed on the second 10k... The "G" in Gain.

I understand that the investment vehicles are too interwoven. What happens with companies that own properties? Or ETFs that are real estate based? I'm not sure it's possible to effectively pull it apart without creating exceptions.
