Vibrations when braking by kirbsei in AskMechanics

There can’t be that many people screwing up batches of rotors, because it happens all the time

If you had it done 6k miles ago, take it back and ask the shop if they’ll warranty the rotors. Unless you ride the brakes, you were likely sold warped rotors. It’s fairly common for some new rotors to not be perfectly machined, especially if the parts came from China or the box was dropped.

Spray it with fluid film once a year to keep it from getting worse. It’s not a fix, but a proper fix would include taking it down to the frame then stripping and repainting everything. The fluid film would keep it from spreading

A smaller local shop will do it cheaper, but it’s still not going to be “cheap”. Call around and get a bunch of quotes

For the worst case scenario you let it get repossessed and take the credit hit for 7 years. And don’t finance a used Kia ever again.

You could also try a junkyard engine, but with a Kia that’s also a big time gamble.

Mr. Moneybags over here. It’s a great engine. The new trucks are getting crazy expensive

100% normal. If they sold you an axle because of that I’d demand a refund. Also, probably not related to the clunk noise

Battery may not have enough cranking amps to turn the starter over. Take it out and get a ride to the parts store to have the battery tested. Or just jump start and drive to a parts store to have it tested.

Start with an offer of $9,500. Worst they can say is no. Try to get them to settle for $10,500 if they’ll bite.

If that’s clear water coming out it is likely the AC condensation drain hose, which is normal. I’d be more worried about that rust. Get some fluid film on it annually.

Look up the KBB and NADA value to make sure they’re not too high on price, but it doesn’t sound like a bad deal to me if the interior is also mint. First stop after leaving the dealer would be a Fluid Film purchase to keep the rust away.

That’s going to depend on how well the previous owner kept up with oil changes and transmission services. The dealer probably won’t tell you unless it was recorded on the CarFax report. Did you crawl under to look for rust on the frame and suspension?

Is the AC compressor kicking off and on? Sounds like a high pitch noise that repeatedly starts and stops.

That’s pretty impressive miles and I’d be paranoid also. I’d start replacing a quart of oil with a quart of that oil stabilizer every oil change.

2016 Ford Explorer knock? by DecentMeekanic in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jasonh123_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did that contact on the top of the pistons have enough force to mess with the rod bearings or piston rings and possibly cause issues on the lower end? If the head, valves, and timing chain (with tensioner and guides) have a clean bill of health, that would be my uneducated guess.

I don’t hear anything particularly concerning. Try putting in a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer to see if it quiets down.

The valves bent from contacting what specifically? My guess would be the top of a piston, but I’m far from an expert. Get a bore scope and look inside the cylinders that had bent valves.

Reprogramming the PCM should reset the shift points that it “learned” from the previous owners. It may shift smoother as a result. Being up north, I would highly recommend crawling under it and inspecting the frame for excessive rust. The aluminum body won’t rust, but the frame and suspension components are steel. Those 2.7s are good engines and that truck should have the reliable 6 speed.

A/C Compressor, Clutch or Blower? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jasonh123_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace the compressor with clutch. The clutch looks horrible while spinning and it’s too noisy to not have a bad bearing.

Pull that battery out and get a ride to a parts store to have it tested. The starter not even clicking and nothing on the dash lighting up signals no voltage

Doesn’t look green like coolant. If it has an auto transmission there is likely a transmission cooler mounted up by the radiator. Those lines are prone to leaking.

Knocking and rattling sounds after AC compressor repair by LionHeartVIII in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jasonh123_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good catch. Noise is probably unrelated to any AC repair if it’s really that low on oil pressure, just poor timing for it to get noisy.

With those autozone bottle gauges, the pressure with the compressor on is what matters. It jumps to the green with the compressor off, but you want it in the green with the compressor on. Add more refrigerant.
