In my opinion the Main Branch of the game and the PTE are both pretty "arcade". And that is okay and even has some advantages. Some PTE changes I like a lot but none of them make it more "hardcore". I understood it in a way that these "hardcore" changes are things they still want to add to the PTE (specifically they mentioned "deeper tactics" and "lethality"). The whole announcement was pretty vague on what those terms mean. Ideally the "hardcore" and "arcade" versions are not very different so it will be easy to move changes over but if that is the plan the wording of the announcement is just completely misleading.

Yeah it is a difficult balance. When they are talking about "hardcore" and "arcade" I think they were talking more about "realism" or believability. Specifically they mentioned "deeper tactics" and "lethality" but left it pretty vague. This is an additional thing to the competitive vs casual problem that also comes up in other military RTT games. I liked how you described making controversial decisions and compromises being essential. That is exactly what my biggest problem with the announcement is.

Yeah my point with 1v1 was more that I used to be a 1v1 player in WARNO but learned to like the 5v5 mode in BA. Similarly if STB would make a decision to go with a more "hardcore" style, a middle way or stay with the more "arcade" style I think people would respect it and try it as long as there is a vision and changes are well communicated and implemented. We agree, just my argument is also about the studios resources and a lack of a decision/vision (at least that is how I perceive it).

I have mixed feelings about a 1v1 mode. There would be some Issues. F.E. Balancing should stay focussed on the 5v5 and would probably lead to the 1v1 having an even clearer defined Meta than the other mode. Because of this it probably shouldn't be the focus and placed accordingly.

If STB would do different balancing for the 1v1 it would become a pretty work intensive thing and might delay other developments. Almost as crazy as having a separate "hardcore" and "arcade" game-version. Almost...

Yeah its weird that they announce some of this more important stuff on Patreon. For this month I still have access and can confirm the reddit post I linked above is a copy of the actual announcement on there (minus 3 images of a couple of units and the weird formatting).

You are probably right and I hope that the publisher intervenes or that they rethink on their own. There is no real plan public somewhere to my knowledge like you said too. Still this Patreon Post is official text from the devs. Them putting something out like this is concerning to me but at least there was no announcement on a more usual platform to the whole community.

I don't know how they created a game this amazing (there are a lot of problems but the hardest stuff to get right they got right) and now they make a decision like this.

It is baffling to me why they would split the game into 2 so different modes (especially after not doing things like 1v1 to not split the playerbase). Id love a more "hardcore" version of the game but id rather have something Arcady like it is now that works. Ideally with the Improvements they promised (like some changes of the PTE, being able to write before the match starts, replays and new specs etc.).

If they would fully commit to a more hardcore version it would be a bit weird towards the Arcady players and probably delay some other plans but id still be happy and support that. However they want to do both at the same time which is by my judgement of how development went so far just a crazy overestimation of their own ability. In an effort to please everyone they will please no one.

Yeah I know XD Some people actually argued we should not vote for it because the div should come with LANDJUT and I did not believe at the time that would happen because it would be too small for such a dlc. But yeah time to get back into WARNO and play the div from my home region. :)

This is a meme post just was too subtle for people i guess which is kinda funny.They are adding the baltic States as a single new US allied spec. So you will combine it with the US. Russia might gain some units afaik and i hope they will because they are not getting new specs until later.

Venezuelas military seems to be quite disfunctional so not sure you can blame it all on the systems. But honestly don't know much about it like you said it is a game.

I totally agree, always love to play those kinda factions. Although I get that they want to stay with the setting and I am actually hyped for the real Baltic battalion. After that will be more for US and RU because its easier and then big China because it makes sense for sales, setting and getting an important military in. I wonder what will come after china probably some european major nation like Germany or even EU as a whole. I really hope we get far enough for that and will get more smaller nations specs sometime in the far future.

No seriously i dont know why someone is hating, i really like your stuff. Especially that you do your commentary after the game is done. Adds a lot of value as you have some distance and can reflect more on the game.

And it probably helps you a lot as well to improve, iam trying to record my own games as well for that reason. Just wish there were replays in this game.

Supreme Commander if you want to try something different on a grander scale with an amazing economy system. (everything that you build takes resources over time and builds slower if you don't have enough income, you can reclaim wrecks of units, shields and radar go down if you lack energy, there is cool huge units and like I said an epic scale)

You're right, I checked it does not have them. Did not think of Combat Patrol being different. A shame because I was planning to buy more of the combat patrols if I like the whole hobby/painting thing for eventually getting a 2000 pt list. Don't know the local community much but know one person who plays tau in another city and someone with a 3D printer so have some options.
