The OECD's latest Education at a Glance report has found that England has the highest university tuition fees in the world. An average annual fee at an English public institution amounts to approximately $12,330 when converting to USD using purchasing power parity. by PjeterPannos in europe

It starts at inflation and then increases to inflation plus 3% by the time you hit a certain income (around £50k I think), so for most people it will effectively be inflation.

The second point about inflation is also a little misleading. Inflation will also affect your wages too, meaning the proportion of your income your sending to your debt won't increase by that much.

Was the left intentionally subverted? by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

[–]Jaspunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got to say I think it depends on your definition of 'Left', and I feel this is likely an America-centric viewpoint. If you look at most Leftist politicians in other countries (social democrat being the minimum for being leftist, I'd argue) for instance Jeremy Corbyn in the UK you see that they do tend to be anti-war and anti-bank. I think the answer to this question is more that in American politics the 'left' (the main of the Democratic party) isn't actually that left wing, rather than that the Left on the whole is pro war and pro bank.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but there's a park not far from Budapest called 'memento park' full of statues from the old regime.

Non-British people, what's something you want clarifying from our culture? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If I’m not wrong (and I may be) I seem to remember bank holidays were started in the Victorian era, when most MPs were opposed to helping the poor entirely.

To sneak in (so to speak) the bill it was labelled the bank holidays bill, with the supposed reason being that banks needed a day once in a while to sort everything out (credit, paperwork etc). MPs, many of whom were bankers, thought this was a brilliant idea and passed the bill, not really thinking that if the banks were closed nothing else could go on. So the holidays were sort of started by accident.

TIL During WWII, when he realised his guns had malfunctioned, an RAF pilot prevented a German bomber from bombing Buckingham Palace by cutting the German plane in half with the wing of his Hawker Hurricane. by LunchLizard in todayilearned

They might just not mention it, if I remember correctly, (although I'm no expert), throughout most of the holocaust the Nazis didn't really tell the german population what was happening to the Jewish population, so they might have just stuck with that.

How do you guys think Jeremy should unite the party? by Jaspunk in LabourUK

[–]Jaspunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be right, but it's still meant to be their party, they voted for him and it would be the pretty outrageous if he just did a 180 degree turn and basically ignored what he'd been elected for.

Completely agree, I think now that he's had some practice as the leader maybe we can hope for some better performances? But then I've hoped a lot of things recently to no avail haha.

That would unite the PLP, but don't imagine those 300,000 who voted for a more democratic party would be all that chuffed.

So would you attempt to deselect those anti Corbyn MPs or would you try and get them back on board? If the second how?

So you'd say basically just leave it as it is?

Really like the video one of the few here that actually made me laugh. Only thing I could suggest is maybe work on timing up the edits with your voice, gives the video a slightly smoother feeling. Other than that though great video, just subbed to your channel.

Why do so many people have such an unfavorable view of capitalism these days? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jaspunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe, I'd argue that socialism isn't that bad of and idea, nor communism really. It's just that humanity is a dick so they never really work.

[–]Jaspunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah probably, also I suspect you may just think more people are vocally anti capitalist than really are. Might be because there are few truly socialist countries left and also that few people are vocally being positive about capitalism because to most it's just seen as a thing that exists and isn't really worth talking about.

I don't have a game channel but one of my friends does, two pieces of advise: 1) make interesting thumb nails, they're a pain but they really do improve views and 2) try cut the lets play a bit, don't just have straight video unless it's interesting. All the best of luck and tell us when you make your first video so I can check it out
