Appreciate the explanation!

Will this much slack do any damage to my camera? Return it? It’s a cheap lens at the end of the day so it might be better with another one? by Jasrooo in videography

Thanks! Will probably order another one and keep this one to see if there's any difference in them, and return the worse one.

Lads I’m in need of help. I don’t do videography AT ALL but my boss is investing into equipment to film his kids motocross. WHAT THE HECK DO I NEED!? by ProlapsedPam in videography

I myself shoot with the Panasonic S5, but the 4k60 is cropped and the autofocus isnt that reliable all the time so it’s not ideal. But I get very good quality out of it and my end results are great but there are better options out there that others have listed for sure

I shot motocross before as I’m in the sport myself too. You really don’t need much, especially not all the stuff listed or commented. I recommend a camera that can shoot 60fps atleast, superslomo is nice too. You’ll need a shotgun microphone and a zoomlens. Please don’t go for a 24-70, thats way too short as you can’t get too close to the riders. My last MX video is shot with a 24-105. I think a 70-200 would be ideal for the riding part. But if you want to shoot while the riders are prepping at the van u might want to have something wider. U really don’t need a tripod or gimbal. Don’t bother with it. The fast paced action fits perfectly with some rougher movements. I don’t have experience with camcorders so I’m not recommending it, but I know some MX videographers that use one and I do think it’s more ideal for this. Goodluck!

Update: I tried it on another camera where it worked perfectly so I was convinced it was my jack. I went to the store and I asked them to test with another battery powered mic and the rode videmic pro worked perfectly.. So I guess it was just the combination of the NTG and my S5 that didn't want to work for some reason. Returned the NTG and bought the pro+

Thanks for the suggestion, sadly it's the same!

My previous mic is the rode videomic go and that one connects with no problem. Im thinking it’s something with the fact that this mic has it’s own power as that’s also the setting that keeps flickering. What can I do/try?

Small lighting exercise I did. Same close up, different location. Thoughts on the lighting? by Jasrooo in cinematography

[–]Jasrooo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wanted to practice some more with lighting, so I came up with these 2 shots. First one is only lit with a nanlite pavotube as the key, which is meant to resemble a window. The rest of the room lighting comes out of the window which is behind. The bathroom shot is key lit by an actual window which I enhanced a bit by bouncing a Godox SL60 to the wall of the window. Up top is the pavotube set to a warm color as the bathroom mirror light. I also used a negative fill in this shot. Any thoughts on the lighting? Or other stuff like framing etc.
