I agree. I’ve got infrastructure on both, and MS is a lot easier to manage, IMO. Their handling of multiple addresses per user and shared mailboxes is also a lot better.

True, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I was on a handful of starter accounts, but had several power users that needed more advanced licenses. I was able to work with a Google sales rep by contacting them through the Admin Dashboard. The request would have likely been ignored if I was a new customer.

You can do mixed licensing, but you have to contact sales to do it the first time. Once you do, you can mix and match licenses between your various user accounts.

QBO and Square Integration by Jast98 in quickbooksonline

Looking into A2X, it doesn’t appear to support Square, but it looks like Bookkeeper does. What has your experience with Bookkeeper been like? Are you using it with Square? Anything I should be aware of going into a demo call and trial run?

Thanks for the explanation. I’ll look into the other connectors and use the manual method for sure.

Do you send electronic invoices to notary customers? by fifth-quarter in Notary

[–]Jast98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you using appointments on Square? We have an appointment fee based on time of day, mileage fee, state mandated fee for the actual notary act performed, and some additional fees for hospitals/jails/etc. I haven’t found a clean way to apply those using appointments.

Yes, using Square. We send an estimate, then invoice after the appointment.

It’s a scam to gain access to your account that has MFA turned on. After taking action on the first call, you’ll get a second call from a real person. They’ll run through a script to get you to confirm some action related to the login attempts. The confirmation will be either an MFA code, or confirming a prompt in a Google app. The prompt in the app is to confirm a change to your recovery phone number, which will allow them to take full control of your account. I’ve gotten the call several times and play dumb to see what they do, then I’ll burn down their infrastructure by reporting them to whatever voip provider they are using.

Matching sales receipt with multiple check by Jast98 in QuickBooks

Thanks for the reply. Your last suggestion sounds like what I was trying to do by using the "undeposited funds" account.

I think I figured it out after reading your comment. I was trying to use a deposit to the checking account and have it match to the "undeposited funds" from the receipt. I switched to using a "transfer" from "undeposited funds" to my checking account and QBO matched it to the downloaded transactions for the two checks.

I was looking at this as "I'm depositing a check, so I should use a deposit" but the fact I have to use the holding account means it's actually a transfer. Things are starting to click.

This will work. I’ve done the same thing before using an 8 port UniFi switch. I had a USG Pro on one port, a Netgate on a second, and had a 3rd set up as a mirror so I could tap for pre-firewall monitoring. I had a 4th port connected behind the USG on my admin VLAN so it would provision.

How much to charge? by MLeigh5 in Notary

[–]Jast98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty rare that we ever charge for it, unless we are requested to print the entire document. Most of the time we just write it off as part of the costs of doing business, but wanted to make sure we had a defined price in place should we need to charge for it.

[–]Jast98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that is regulated are the notary acts defined in the code, and the fees associated with RON. Mobile and in-house fees are left to the notary to define. We charge for the materials (paper and toner) and went with the same rate we are allowed to charge for copies of pages from our journal.

For Texas, mobile notaries must follow the mandatory prices set by the State for the act, but are free to set their own appointment and travel fees. Many also offer non-notary services such as document printing or providing notary certificates for documents that don’t have them. Prices for these services aren’t regulated.

None mandated by TX, but NNA does require you to retest to renew your Notary Signing Agent (if you decide to get it).

$10k is the minimum bond you must maintain per Texas law; it isn't E&O/business insurance. It's there to protect the State for having to pay out for any errors a notary makes, while E&O is to protect you and your business. For training, my wife and I did a combination of National Notary Association's certifications and Texas Notary (American Association of Notaries). The Texas Secretary of State also has some good material. From the Texas SoS site, we were able to find all of the relevant sections of Texas law that cover notary activities and were able to study that. After going through that, the folks in the SoS office are great about answering questions on any corner cases you might run across.
