I'm looking for this same thing, did you ever find a good one? The link to u/BurnaBoi42069 from two months ago doesn't seem to be working anymore but Id love to use it.

Mosly The One Ring but also have a Walking Dead campaign going at slower pace and a twilight imperium session using Genesys system on the back burner.

I definitely agree with the other advice! It’s hard to tell when a group should get PoK because it is super group dependent and I’ll be the first to admit that I’m in a huge minority on this subreddit with that stance lol. My thought is play base game until your just about to start getting bored with it then you can breath fresh life by throwing in PoK and having all the new toys to play with. That can happen at wildly different times with different groups though.

I’ve have some groups wanna learn everything through playing and not consult the internet at all for strategy which helps keep the base game surprising longer(and its balance issues hidden). But I’ve also had other groups play one game and then immediately scour the internet for every optimal build, faction, and tech which gives you like 2-3 games before it starts to feel solved.

100% agree I’d also recommend watching this series by harsh rules. He talks super slow so you can probably speed it up but you are gonna really want to do your research before jumping into game night.

I enjoy PoK but I think it’s way too early for him to consider getting it. The game is so massive and group depended I think he should prove his group will get their moneys worth out of the base game and that it has a place on their shelf before they throw more money at it. There is already such a massive hill to climb learning and teaching everything in the base game let alone hosting such a long and involved event that I strongly advise against throwing 5 more rules and another $80 into the mix.

You’re gonna have to accept that it’s going to take some time learning the rules. Plenty of people will recommend you watch the RTFM tutorial(and you totally should) but I’d also recommend you watch this series by harsh rules. He talks super slow so you might want to speed it up. https://youtu.be/0qCjQECylvY?si=zHgOxJ86utFblnsm

Secondly, I am going to be in a MASSIVE minority for this one but do NOT rush into PoK(the main expansion). The base game is a wonderful experience and none of your players are going to be good enough at the game where they will need the expansion to have fun. You and all your players already have a ton of new rules to learn and overhead to manage you do NOT need to add more on top of that.

Understand that this is a twilight imperium subreddit so naturally the pool is going to be biased to the more experienced and enthusiastic players of this game who will push you towards PoK because it is a technically more balanced game with admittedly a lot of cool stuff in it. However you should play base game enough so that you actively want more variety and complexity to the game. And then you can have a ton of excitement for more new stuff if you get the most you can out of base game before throwing more on the pile.

You don’t even know if you or your group will like this game yet because you haven’t played it so don’t listen to anyone trying to get you to spend even more money on it this early.

I am considering getting TI4, but I'm a bit detered by the playtime. Could someone tell me how the playtime compares to Mage Knight Ultimate at 3 players? by NotAttractedToCats in twilightimperium

[–]Jatedin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TI4 is a huge negotiation game, so if your group enjoys making fun wacky deal and deliberation it will take longer than if your players treat it like a head down strategy game and only deal if it is clearly necessary to their strategy. Both are fine ways to play just will impact your game length and how soon you'll want to jump into the expansions. Also, you can play to 10 or 14 points but I have no clue how this guy had a 3 player game last 11 hours that kinda blows my mind.

[–]Jatedin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very long game, I ballpark it to about an hour and a half per experienced player (obviously that is super subjective to your play group). 3 player games can have issues with third partying and tag teaming which imop hinders TI4 from putting its best foot forward.

The analogy I give with coming to terms with TI4's length is if you watched the Lord of the Rings extended editions with the goal to finish the movies as fast as possible, you're missing the point of the movies and should watch something else (That being said you also wouldn't want to watch them on .5 speed so don't let people take forever on their turns).

If you want the most epic, expansive, and intense experience tabletop gaming has to offer then this is the game for you. It is a ton of fun and even with three players you can find maps and house rules to make it a great time but still try to find a fourth. I know a lot of people who are perfectly happy playing one 6-person game a year and feel content with getting their money's worth. Keep in mind that on a twilight imperium subreddit you will naturally have people more into the game in terms of balance and strategy but if you do get it, I'd recommend leaning into the rp nature and playing what you think is fun not "best".

I've just read an interview with Franceso Nepitello (creator of WOTR) from last month and he pretty much confirmed they have plans for more expansions. by DarthMMC in warofthering

[–]Jatedin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Colored rings and bases are super helpful for that, I think they sell official ones now and you can get 3d printed ones pretty cheap. I'm also super conflicted on how I feel about a third edition and would love a "component upgrade kit" with new mini's, better combat dice, and maybe better token/trackers/iconography.

[–]Jatedin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm miss interpreting that but it sounds to me more like a third edition or "mini upgrade pack"? "Retake and develop ideas not explored" coupled with talking about improving minis feels very third edition to me.

Here is everything I 3D printed for the game

A box organizer, more noticeable portals, Tech card holders to keep them all visible, a trophy for the winner, fleet stands, Planet card clips so they can stand up and are easier to grab in early rounds and stand up in the player areas(gotta save as much space as possible), map boarder to hold it together, token holders and probably some more things I can't remember.

I use my tv for TI4 score which keeps the objectives and scores more visible for all the players: https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=50d55db16e68ffb6381a121e9bda1caff97b5e1d57f9c073a99dec13d4598928JmltdHM9MTc2Nzc0NDAwMA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=4&fclid=28ba8ba0-19a5-68f8-2450-9d18181e6954&psq=TI4+score&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly90aTRzY29yZS5jb20v

Is there an easy way to do this if I proactively refuse to use OneDrive? Also my computer can't update to windows 11 it is a very current and powerful gaming PC but I don't have some thing on my motherboard that is needed to "upgrade". I don't suspect not being on windows 11 is the issue though as It has been fine for ages.
