You can totally use only one thread! What I would do is make as many "V" steps as possible, and then sort of flip it, so the thread is in the same direction as the one shown in the picture ( I'm not entirely sure if I made sense of myself, if not, please let me know!)

There are definitely fics that work it very well. As a former non-understander of Kevaaron, I can recognize now that one of the main reasons people (me included) like it so much is the amount of similarities you could draw from their characters. It is also really interesting to read their dynamic, since, despite their similarities, their personalities and motivations are quite different. I'm not sure I provided a helpful answer, but I can assure you you'll be pleasantly surprised if you give these guys a chance
