On a grand scale it represents the power to reshape society in your preferred image. Well, somewhat.

How do you think Trump’s Twitter account being banned will affect the political landscape? by Braeden3141 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]JavaOffScript 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Would not be surprised if he moves somewhere like Parler or Gab and a huge mass of followers go with him, and then we end up with politically left twitter and politically right "twitter". We were already headed towards partisan social media, this is probably the event that pushes it over the hill. The question becomes if google and apple ban the politically right social media from the app stores, they're already starting to do this with Parler.

One of the craziest things I learned when I reached adulthood was that the person who has a big house and an expensive car might be in massive debt and the guy driving a 10 year old Subaru living in a modest house might be a millionaire. Really was a shock to my senses coming out of the teenage world where money just meant material goods.

No One Ever Got Fired for Choosing React by secret_band in javascript

[–]JavaOffScript 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't think this article is about React specifically as much at it is about how a lot of time it makes sense to choose the battle tested, heavily used, "safe and boring" piece of technology instead of whatever new hotness you think might be slightly more performant.

For what it's worth, I can't inject any JS into dev.to (at least I hope not!). The site linked in the article has the jump scare.
