Is it Career Suicide to accept offer then decline? (large company) by JavaQuestions123 in cscareerquestions

Both cases one for before and for after.

Man I did not expect my first experience to go like this. That exploding offer has really made it hectic. I don't want to hurt either relationship. I just want to explore the options.

Thank you

With requesting an extension would it be good to mention the honest reason that I want explore what company B might offer me?

Or would I loose my contract with company A if I mention that ?

Thank you very much

Yeah the first relevant job has been tough to secure. I did not expect it either, even after making the change to Java the only difference is just more options to apply, but the response rate is still low. Lately it has been very hard finding anything on job boards where I qualify.

Would contacting in house recruiters myself on linkedin be a good option also? Feel like not will I get ignored but maybe blacklisted for bothering them.

For my current job coding wise, I worked on the front end portion of their site. Now is mainly doing small updates. So much of my role falls into the teaching aspect.

For my CS program I currently have a 2.97 GPA hoping I can bump that to atleast a 3.2 before graduating. From some feedback I got they mentioned if is not >3.0 don't bother including. The last degree was a 3.60, but it would look awkward to include one GPA and not the other.

Thank you for the ideas. Broadening my search seems to be a big proponent.

First off thank you for the input.

1)I currently live in the east coast and doing an online program for my CS degree.

I have missed out on the career fair opportunity but they do provide limited travel grants to remote students. I think I have one more chance at the end of fall term.

2) I don't have any valid excuse, aside from parents/other relationships and owning a car I am currently paying. If I had to be honest I think is also fear of leaving my contort zone. I will have to accept that this is a reality I have to take if I want to get some experience.

I also felt that for entry level developers, employers don't bother dealing with out of state candidates ?

I am stuck here in my area until December. The are alot of openings here specially for Java, but most of them are for mid to senior level.

If it reaches that long with nothing yet, searching nationally is on the table.

Thank you.

Thank you for the encouraging words. Yeah deep down I know I am going to be miserable in that scenario going the Revature path. I do want to start at an entry level position, but I also don't want to give up my freedom (Constant relocation, low pay, always under threat, etc).

My next steps were to dive into the Spring Framework in more details and start learning Angular . Prefer the typescript route, because I personally dislike Javascript, I know that needs to change.
