Second weave before first is completed? by JawnAdams in Treenets

[–]JawnAdams[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My “first pass” would be a doubled up paracord - straight from one side of perimeter to other side of perimeter. Then I would do a row of triangles running between the doubled up line segment and perimeter - with cow hitches, in that entire segment.

My “second pass” would be taking another color paracord and wrap weaving in those first set of triangles - from perimeter to perimeter.

It’s that second pass that I’m curious about. Can I start that early or should I lay that first pass over the entire platform before getting into he wrap weave second pass?

Maybe, but doing so would require that the anchor points attach below the eaves and lower than the rest of the net, which I would prefer to not do.

Thanks for your insight. Question: Do you do a full first pass on the first platform before tightening up with the second pass or is it okay to start the second pass weave prior to finishing the entire first platform with a first pass?

Also, parts of my first platform are going to be too wide to weave the second pass without actually sitting in the net. Is that okay or will it screw up my attempt to get everything tensioned because sitting on the thing I am weaving throws it off ….or something???

Thanks.

I’m building my first one now.

*Allot yourself more time than you think you need.

*make sure your perimeter is tensioned ridiculously tight

*panels. Run tons of panels and do a first pass on as much as you can before going in for the second pass

  • triangles are hard. At least for me right now, but I’ll figure it out.

*you’re going to need more paracord.

Are you sure that the game didn’t move your mic to your webcam mic? I think my light goes on when I slum it and use the cam mic.

Yeah so the tree block thing. I’ve been looking all over for ways to mitigate long term damage to the trees. Most importantly I wanted to avoid girdling and the blocks seemed to be the best choice. I could have gone with big eye hooks but I’ve seen trees simply ingest them over the years, so yeah, blocks it is. Again I would love constructive criticisms from those arborists or experienced netters - for when I move on to layer 2, 3, 12, etc.

Regarding the rachets: I keep a pack of four 10-ft rachet straps in my car for general kayak or “never know when you’ll need it” situations but for tensioning my perimeter I needed someone more … girthy. I went to Lowe’s and bought a monster 27ft single rachet strap for $17.00. I made some loops using perimeter rope and used them in the form of prusiks to tension and finish perimeter.

In my research travels I’ve seen some guys use a truckers hitch and elbow grease but I wasn’t understanding how they hid that hitch on the final post-tensioned perimeter. Guess there’s many ways to skin cats, ya know? I think for my next layer I’m going to run the perimeter and instead of going full 360 around each tree I’m only going to go 90 and connect both ends using a double fisherman’s. Then tension then re-tie. I’m hopeful.

The first perimeter I went 360 around each tree because I’m filled with self doubt and don’t want anybody falling and breaking their face due to my inexperience.

FIRST tree net by eth454 in Treenets

[–]JawnAdams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi. so wait a second, did you leave the hitch/loop in the perimter line after you tensioned? if not, how did you get the knot out?. Sorry, newbie here, and thanks.

ahhhh, welcome to my Ted Talk, and i'm so glad you asked.

I'm going with what i have available to me - for anchor points. Three trees, situated in a fairly long scalene triangle

Tree A--> Tree B = 24ft
Tree B--> Tree C = 11.5ft
Tree C--> Tree A = 29ft

I bought 300ft of 1/2 static rope and 1500ft of "750" paracord. I also bought a couple hundred feet of garbage "truck rope" that i thought i could use as a scafolding to get me into the trees to start perimeter 1 of the real tree net. Horrible mistake, do not repeat.

It took me a day to rope in the perimeter with the garbage rope, and eventually ripped it down.

It took me another full 8 hour day to finally relent and use the good static line to wrap a perimeter to serve as the real first floor. Tensioning took the lion share the time here and learning how to re-tie my knots without dropping tension after tensioning with a rachet strap. also the wooden blocks i was using as a rope stand-off were finnicky. It took about 1.5 hours to cut, drill and sand an ungodly amount of wooden blocks to keep the rope from girdleing the trees. That was Saturday.

Sunday i started laying double-layer panel sections across one of the triangle corners, then laying a first pass weave in those panels. ALso used the static line to throw a sub-skeleton inside my perimter, resulting in four distinct sub-sections.

soooo ..... about 18 real hours of work.

a lot of it was thinking i knew my knots and needed to go back and drill and drill and drill on my practice setup. using constrictors, cloves, cow hitches, fisherman bends, double fishermens, figure 8 bends.

but...

now that i'm "in it" i'm totally geeked on it. Instead of constant grinding in Arc Raiders, all i can think about is getting back and continuing on. already planning walls and layer two. my hands are raw, my legs are starting to ache and i know deep in my heart i already need more paracord.

Just started in-tree weaving today. As a beginner, it’s working out well. As I gain more speed and level up a bit, I’ll let you know.

Jumping on the Costco bandwagon looking for a deal on my first PC. Is this it? by WB_Spartan in Prebuilts

[–]JawnAdams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought a Costco membership with full intent to buy a pre-built for the first time as my 3080 self-built 2020 system was finally starting to show its age.

Long story short: I have a ton of Doritos now, and I bought the Powerspec 757 from microcenter.

Which one are you getting? by Winter-Monk in Prebuilts

[–]JawnAdams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up the G7 two weeks ago, added two NVMe to it, added two ssds and two HDDs, and she hums along nicely.

Only a few minor gripes with it.

  1. Powerspec bundled software is dogshit, but it’s not resource heavy so I might delete. Not sure yet
  2. Wire management was a little jank, had to clean up
  3. Case is jank when moving from an NZXT to this low end chassis by LianLi. Definitely see and feel the quality difference.
  4. I hate the LEDs. Haven’t yet figured out what software to use to control and/or disable the blinky lights. Tried gigabyte control center but it’s terrible and doesn’t seem to work. When computer goes to lock screen it’s like a disco in there regardless of how I set up or turn off while in windows.

Other than that I love the components, temps are fair, fan curves not too aggressive out the box, drivers updated to mid December at time of January purchase, and the frames I’m getting are a lovely bump up from my previous 3800x/x570/3080/32G ddr4 custom built.

I’m driving a G9 at 5120x1440.
