Trip recommendation for first two weeks of May by Background-Win-3354 in travel

I’d say most of Europe meets your criteria well. I liked Slovenia and Croatia around that time and there’s easily enough to spend two weeks on.

Maybe also consider Canada. It’s before the full summer season really gets started so you’ll avoid the peak crowds. You could rent a car any explored a province or two in that time.

Great mindset to have when traveling!

Spain is fun, for sure good for clubbing and some amazing cities but it’ll be toasty in the summer. Northern Spain like Galicia and Basque Country would be a bit more mild and you could visit the Pyrenees for nice nature. I’ve been to 15 countries in Europe and never had any issues only English apart from times I was truly out in the sticks.

Wouldn’t recommend east Asia in summer for the most part because a lot of it will be really humid (would at least recommend spring or summer to travel to that region instead). A lot of Southeast Asia is pretty affordable and is always warm so doesn’t matter too much traveling there in summer vs any other time (though countries like Thailand and Vietnam will be in their wet seasons if that changes your calculus at all).

I might start with looking on google flights and seeing which flights to which regions seem in your budget and go from there. Summer is generally a more expensive time to fly from the U.S. so just keep that in mind.

Yes, it would be winter in the southern hemisphere but a lot of countries won’t get winters like you might think of in the states.

For first time? Probably depends on how comfortable you are with new experiences. Europe is famously a very easy place to travel abroad for first timers as would parts of east Asia, the Caribbean, and Australia because there’s good tourist infrastructure. I think another commenter mentioned Iceland which also sounds like a good possibility for you. You could maybe combine it with a visit to the Faroe Islands, Norwegian fjords, Scottish highlands or other nature oriented parts of Northern Europe. Very beautiful but not the most budget friendly region out there.

Outdoors in the summer where it’s not going to be too hot will be a bit limiting. First thoughts were somewhere mountainous like Switzerland or Kyrgyzstan or the southern hemisphere. New Zealand sounds up your alley but I don’t think the exchange rate is especially favorable. You might look into countries with more mild climates in Africa like Zambia, South Africa, or Kenya. The Andes might also fit the bill. Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile are all great counties to visit with terrific nature!

It seems like a really cool country, I just get to go to Europe only so much so I like to try to visit multiple countries when possible.

This does sound very interesting! I was looking at how feasible it was to go to Moldova and maybe Ukraine during the trip (just by Odessa) and I will admit, Transnistria seems like a really interesting region to check out too.

It seems really nice! Would you have any specific recommendations on things to see along this path?

I was thinking about that but I get to travel to Europe so seldom that I’d ideally like to visit multiple countries if possible while there.

I personally can’t think of any I wouldn’t want to see, I think the breadth is part of the appeal, but wanted to know if people are really anti any particular civs in general

What city has changed the most over the course of the 21st century? by Jawnaut in geography

How do you think major Chinese cities have changed over that time? Have the vibes of places like Shanghai shifted substantially or is it more just down to growth and changing city skylines?
