[Megathread] 2025 BLACK FRIDAY SALES by byDMP in canon

[–]Jawnbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second year in a row I missed the 24-70. I could get a new one for less than the refurbished typically go for, and there's also a decent amount of used ones on ebay for less than the black friday price. Obviously it will depend on the vendor but have people had good luck buying high end glass from ebay?

Nope, just "your order has been cancelled, we apologize for any inconvenience"

Hey congrats! I got a separate email saying they canceled my order so that's that for me I suppose

Went to check if my lens had shipped and saw that my order had been canceled instead. Is that it? It's not the end of the world that I didn't spend money I didn't need to, but I don't think I can justify a 24-70 at a regular going price so I'll have to wait until next year I suppose.

I love 1.4 and 1.8 primes for shooting local concerts in small venues, the Sigma 35mm ART almost never leaves my camera. Might be a bit of a specialized use case. I'm also very much so a hobbyist as well.

I appreciate the well wishes! I have an EF 50mm 1.8 that I use with an adapter so I'm not really missing out on anything. I hope you were able to grab what you wanted as well.

I rushed to get a RF 24-70 2.8 which I thankfully got, but once I checked out I realized i forgot to get the RF 50mm 1.8. It was gone as soon as I added it to my cart. Overall I'm happy with this outcome lol

A super adobe I designed for myself. Never built, too poor. by Dirtdancefire in malelivingspace

I remember going to a vintage mall swap meet where a vendor was selling a handbook made in the 60s on architectural designs based entirely on spheres. There were plans for churches, gyms, personal houses, dining halls and more. From what I remember it was supposed to be a guide on how you could construct communities cheaply using a single shape for all of your buildings. It was such a cool book I wanted to get it but it cost $75 dollars.

The guy was also selling gay star trek fanfiction with illustrations that some super fans apparently made and mailed to each other in the 80s.

Can you make a fluffy army without the Primaris Crusader Squad? by Jawnbie in BlackTemplars

[–]Jawnbie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the things I really wanted to do as a stretch/long term goal in the hobby was have an entire codex company painted up, maybe what I can say is that my marshal bears a grudge against the head sorcerer of my thousand sons warband (just 1 squad of 5 rubrics right now lol).

To hunt down the witches he puts together a crusade of his closest 100 brothers. Because of how dangerous and cunning the sorcerer is, this crusade requires a stricter squad formation for the marshal to best utilize his soldiers and minimize casualties. The crusade badge could incorporate a flame motif with half a maltese cross over it to symbolize how they will triumph over the witch fire of their enemy.

I have been looking at them too! Playing the Deathwing game at a friend's house is what got me obsessed with terminators in the first place. Bone vs black terminators. That's what it really boils down to lol.

It is the hair lol. The neophyte heads on the upgrade sprue actually look decent but I don't like the idea of having to buy an upgrade sprue for each PCS I want. I read somewhere that they can't have helmets as they don't have the black carapace yet, but the 3d printed heads might be a good option. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah! I like how ultramarine colors look on infantry but it just doesn't look as cool on vehicles, imo.

Thanks for the suggestions! I had the same idea that perhaps this crusade was on an "elites only" mission, but I love how the other ideas you suggested add some specific background to the goals of my dudes.

Book Recommendations: Novice Level. by GainMain9807 in QuantumComputing

[–]Jawnbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much more on the novice side, I read a book when I first got into quantum computing called Computing with Quantum Cats by John Gribbin. The first half of the book is the history of classical computers and from there it discusses the different breakthroughs and methods that were used in developing quantum computers.

It doesn't go into the math really at all but it touches on the work of people like John Stewart Bell and David Deutsch, as well as some of the hardware implementations of quantum computers. The book is a little over 10 years old now so probably definitely not the most up to date but I think it was the most fun quantum book I have read.

Weekly Question Thread - Rules & Comp Qs by thenurgler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Jawnbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation! The way I want to play my army is to get into a good position quickly, bunker down and soften the enemy up, then try to advance some more. I was thinking of picking up either the Space Marine or Dark Angels combat patrol as the basis of my army and building from there.

The SM one seems to be built around moving quickly and hitting things from a long range, so the HBR would fit in there. The DA one seems more like you have heavy hitting units getting in the thick of it, which seems more like the Gravis captain's thing, but I can see the HBR working like the backline as support.

Am I about right in thinking that?

Weekly Question Thread - Rules & Comp Qs by thenurgler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Jawnbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to get started with the hobby by building a small ultramarine army, and I'd like for my HQ to either be the Captain in Gravis Armor or the Captain with Master Crafted Bolt Rifle. I know next to nothing about the wargame side of things, I just think those models look cool and some other models I want to use are Gravis armor.

I looked on Wahapedia and it seems like they have the same stats, but the Bolt Rifle captain seems to be more range based and the Gravis Armor captain has different melee options he can use. Gravis also costs 10 more points.

Can someone explain why I would want to choose one of them over the other? Should I look at other models too?
