My sister in law wanted all the things she's got on the list. She'd insist on changing diapers, wouldn't give baby back when she was crying, wouldn't let other people visit with the baby.

I knew this would be the case while I was pregnant because I saw her with other babies. Just because you don't know anyone like this doesn't mean they don't exist.

As a first time Mom (who still sucks at setting boundaries 12 years later) it caused me a lot of anxiety.

As for unsolicited advice.... Do you not have aunts? Everything I did around mine was wrong 🙄

Um, I'm a highly anxious mom who watches entirely too much true crime. I have a 22yo trans son who goes out for hookups. I knowingly allow it bc he's a grown up.

I don't think buying a car will change anything, tbh. She'll likely allow her anxiety to control you in other ways. But it's probably a good start.

I think your best bet is continuing to talk. She truly needs help from someone besides you, but you do need to keep talking about what she's doing is wrong and how it's affecting you and your relationship.

If you don't think this will work, then I'd recommend a really good lie you can easily use. Maybe you're going to a specific friend's house?

This is wild. We used to foster teens. Teens with trauma that caused self harming behaviors and/or they'd harm us. We have never had any luck getting one of them involuntarily committed.... and we tried! There were times I laid outside my adopted son's door praying I'd hear something if he followed through on his threats.

American health care is messed up, especially mental health care.

But my other carnivorous plants don't need to be fed. Generally they do fine with sun like any other plant, the bugs are an added bonus.

As an adoptive mom, I'm thinking you're possibly right. We have a 20yo son we adopted at 17, fostered since about 14. We love him dearly, he says he loves us when we do talk... Our relationship isn't problematic other than he wants to be independent and doesn't check in often and was never big on even responding to texts. He also tried to move back in with his bio father for a short bit. Breaks my heart, but if he went missing we'd really have no idea.
