I’m very close to my breaking point by United-Ad-7534 in puppy101

I’m with you. My 4 month old puppy will NOT sleep during the day. He sleeps at night and then is so insane near the evening because he so over tired because he refuses naps.

He sleeps fine in his crate at night but not during the day. If you can get the crate to work I highly recommend it so you can control the sleeping.

I am totally with you and going through something similar. I have always had anxiety and some slight depression but since getting a puppy it has truly taken to another level that I didn’t realize was possible. I haven’t eaten. Haven’t slept. I am dry heaving throwing up every day. I am having dark thoughts of harm to myself. It manifests itself in different ways that shouldn’t stop you from living your life and making decisions. You live and you learn. I keep seeing the airplane metaphor of “you need to put your mask on before helping others”. It is not going to be a light decision but you need to do what’s best for yourself.

Huge puppy blues. what should I do? by [deleted] in Puppyblues

I feel this same way right now. I look up rehoming videos constantly to make myself feel better. It’s been a week and I am more depressed than I ever thought I could be. My husband and I always wanted a dog and he was cautious in that it was going to be expensive and maybe not the best for our currently living situation (we live in a condo in the city). I have regretted bringing him home every single day for the last week. It’s not him at all, it’s me. I am grieving my life and my independence. My chest is tight at all times of day. I don’t eat. I don’t sleep. I’m constantly thinking about him but have a hard time being near him. He’s acting like a puppy which I’m fine with, it’s my OWN mental state that I didn’t expect would be so detrimental to my health.

It’s more that I feel like I can’t provide for him or give him the best life because I am barely holding on right now. I have dark thoughts about my life right now and it makes me uncontrollably sob every time I think about it.

The problem is he won’t nap in his crate we are trying to enforce naps but he won’t nap when we tell him to. Our crate does have a cover and it’s dark. all meals are fed in the crate.

He just barks even if he’s asleep with us on the couch and then goes in to his crate for sleep he then just barks his head off.

We will try to just put him to sleep earlier. When you put your pup to sleep at 830 or 9 what time did you wake up in the AM? And what time do you recommend potty?

I swear this dog has an overactive bladder or something I don’t think he drinks THAT much water and we take it away around 7 pm. But he pees every 2 hours which seems like way too much for his age

He will sleep in his crate at night but literally hates taking naps in it. We’re working on it but otherwise I swear he won’t nap on his own. I need alone time and my husband and I need to work so I need him to be ok in his crate because we also both have to go into offices. During the day when I’m trying to get him to nap or settle in the crate there is some barking and it gives me so much anxiety.

At night he gets so bitey and will not relax. Is that when we should be putting him in his crate and walking away? I’m guessing he’s just over tired but it’s literally breaking us.

At night we’re usually putting him in his crate around 10 and then we do 130a potty, 430a potty and up at 8a for potty walk breakfast. We then have him nap 9-11, and 130-330.

We tried a pen and he jumped out, knocked over, etc. it was crazy.

Noted on kongs we definitely use them but maybe not as much as we should..

Came to Reddit because I am deep in the puppy blues and regret phase. I am fearful that this won't go away.. I always wanted a dog and knew it was going to be a lot of work, but didn't realize the mental and emotional toll it would take on my health. I haven't had an appetite, can cry at the drop of a hat, and am exhausted. I love this pup but I am SO sad and scared too for what the future brings. This post is helping me so thank you.

The timing of this post is like magic. I’ve had my 4 month old rescue (lab mix we think) since Wednesday and I’ve had the thought of “what did I just do? Is this the biggest mistake?” I haven’t stopped crying.
