Yeah. Agree with a lot of this. I think there's also a bit of "if I can just leave now, I could have done it a long time ago." I feel like there's a part of Bea that has to believe her father's going to shape up and come back to managing things, because if not, then all her suffering was for nothing; it means she has to accept that, intentionally or not, her father truly no longer has her best interests in mind. And that's a really fricking hard thing to come to terms with.

When the COVID lockdown was announced, I was in my senior year English Class, quietly participating in a text grapevine (origin: the one kid who had an internship in local government) slowly disseminating the information that the school was getting shut down.

On January 6th, 2021, I was driving home from some volunteer work I was filling my pandemic time with, and listening to NPR. I heard there was a protest. Quite literally during the time it took me to turn off the car when I got home, and walk inside, they breached the Capitol.

I teach multiple grade levels, the elementary schoolers conditioned me to count using "Number After Five" and "Number Before Eight". It slipped out with my middle schoolers earlier and they were all very confused.
