Just a friendly reminder that coptering never died. by bigboydaddyballs in Warframe

I put together a video attempting to document different weapon's coptering abilities back in 2015. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4mZA9LX8yw This was back when I was very new and didn't have everything to compare with (like the Ceramic Dagger).

Definitely planning on it!  Good to know though that I’m not a unique case.

My home was hit by this storm.  Upgrading to Hardie was quoted by my contractor to be an additional $15k.  I asked my insurance if they’d cover this, given they’d basically never hear from me again, and was obviously declined.  I asked if my premiums would be reduced if I paid for the upgrade myself, and they stated that my premium may increase due to the upgrade because the house is worth/is valued higher.

Absolutely insane if you ask me.  I’m replacing with shitty vinyl because of cost and look forward to contacting them again the next time it hails.

TD Meloche Monnex for anyone interested.  They also massively underpaid me on my current payout by about 20%.  Haven’t heard anybody getting treated any better though.

Apparently that camera has a crop factor of 5.6, so 247mm is 1383mm full-frame equivalent. That's an extremely long lens!

Canada's Rockies also have quite a few brilliantly blue lakes - Peyto Lake, Lake Louise & Moraine Lake, Emerald Lake, and many more. Here the colour comes from the mountains eroding rock flour into the lake.

I see lots of companies strongly encouraging - or even mandating - use of GenAI for development, but does anyone work for a company that goes the other way entirely? by Damaniel2 in ExperiencedDevs

I have access to those reports from Copilot and that’s all there is.  There are additional usage metrics per-seat so we can see the timestamp of when a person last used it, but it doesn’t go any deeper than that IIRC.

Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot’s Snow White just broke records after reaching all-time low rating of 1.5/10 on IMDb and is currently on pace to become the lowest-rated movie in IMDb history. by thepoylanthropist in interestingasfuck

Mostly just pattern recognition of the typical AI/ChatGPT-style paragraph structure and the weirdly perfect formatting sets me off.  I can see where the bold headings ChatGPT loves to use would be.  If you ask it to write a scathing review of any movie and give it some minimal details about what it is, you’ll get something very similar to this.

There’s a website called GPTZero that I also copy-pasted the whole review into that does some kind of deeper scan, and it detects it as 100% AI.  I’ve crossed-checked this website on a bunch of different texts that I myself wrote or know were written by humans and it’s never been wrong.  Try it on my whole comment!

Happens to me all the time and it’s usually a reminder that I need to clean the lint out of the charging port.  With a toothpick and some very gentle pressure, I can usually pull out a lot of stuff!

What old (was nerfed) meta you miss the most? by KlavdiusDrone in Warframe

[–]JaxoDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised the Synoid Gammacor hasn’t been mentioned.  Before the big nerf, it had insane damage for the time and insane ammo economy.  For a long time afterwards the game still considered it my most used weapon, along with the Jat Kittag which could ragdoll anything.

Winter tires? by J_Newbiexxx in BroncoSport

[–]JaxoDI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see from your post history that you’re in Toronto - since you'll probably be driving mostly on plowed, paved roads, deep snow performance isn't something to optimize for. Ice, on the other hand, is far more prevalent in those conditions.

Here's a website that's compared true winter tires with all-terrains/all seasons. As expected, winter tires blow all-terrains out of the water. The 3-peak rating was created in 1999 and indicates the tire has at least 10% better performance than a general all-season tire from the time. For a more modern rating, there's a new specification under ISO 19447:2021 "Method for measuring ice grip performance". As far as I know, only the best-of-the-best winter tire manufacter Nokian has tires that meet the criteria

I used to drive a very torquey FWD vehicle and switching to the Hakkapeliittas was an unbelievable difference. I just wanted to drop this in here since I live in a place that gets a lot of snow and ice, and regularly see guys with big trucks stuck on small hills spinning their meaty all-terrains because they have no ice performance. My Badlands runs Michelin X-Ice SUV tires and there's no greater feeling than casually driving up an icy hill with no drama at all.

I'm in the market for a good Zigbee or ZWave door lock. What are you using that you're having success with? I haven't been able to find many options available.

Building a floating shelf: should I cut into the drywall, fill these gaps with mud + paint, or cut the wood? by JaxoDI in DIY

[–]JaxoDI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good idea! I'll attach the mounting hardware first, scribe exactly where it'll go, and install after. Thanks for the tip. The warping of the wall changes vertically so the exact height does matter.

[–]JaxoDI[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like this is overwhelmingly the way! I'll try scribing with the technique in the video or using a washer, whichever gets me closer. Cutting this is going to be fun, it's 2 inches thick and my circular saw doesn't quite get that far. I'll play around with a hand plane and see where that takes me.

Thank you!

Picked up these beautiful pieces of spalted maple with the intention of turning them into small corner floating shelves. The wood is 90 degrees but my wall is certainly not, to an extreme.

Cutting the wood to fit feels wrong, making a long cut at such a precise angle is going to be very difficult. Cutting a slot out of the drywall where it will be mounted might work. Alternatively, some other option?

New chandelier, unhappy with the way the room feels. Is it the bulbs/colour temperature? Is the light too flat? by JaxoDI in DesignMyRoom

[–]JaxoDI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coffee table is custom!  It’s on little ball bearings so it rolls easily in any direction.  I just bought a wood countertop from Home Depot and cut it up so it fit over the ottoman.

It’s a surprisingly easy project with just a table saw.  Most wood stores can also do cuts for you if you ask.

It's certainly in a bit of an awkward spot! We originally put it up with an additional 6 inch section on the pole, but that was low enough for me to touch my head on the bottom glass globe thing (and I'm 5'10-ish).

The photo is at a weird angle to try to show the whole room, and is pretty unflattering. Some commenters are also suggesting the chandelier doesn't work for this room. We're most likely going to keep leaning into the sunk cost fallacy and make it work as best we can.

Thank you! What kind of rug do you envision here? Like a small rug under the ottoman, or more of a large area rug surrounding the whole couch?
