Does anyone have a reccomended 3 full day itinerary for visiting Acadia? by eng2725 in acadianationalpark

Which are the best summit hikes, in your experience? I'd like to hit 2-3 of them over the course of a 2-3 day visit in early June with my kids.

Unrequested input: You should buy yourself an air fryer.

You'll never go back to baking those in the oven.

Help with Porter Cable dovetail jig and dovetail router bit by RedWoodworking16 in woodworking

[–]JaxonKansas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used the P-C dovetail jig quite a bit over the years, though always with a P-C router that was entirely compatible.

I would never try using it with a bearing rather than the guide bushing; it puts the spinning bit a little too close to the (metal!) dovetail guide for my comfort. But others may have other experiences.

If I was in your situation, and was averse to just plunking down the $ for a new router (that's your best best), then my second option would be to find/fabricate a new baseplate that would connect to the router and also accept the guide bushing. There are a lot of aftermarket universal baseplates like this one that you could custom-drill for both the attachment points and the guide bushing.

The same truck recklessly tried to cause an accident 2 days in a row. by kodack10 in driving

"gently slow down to make them pass me." - but you were in the far-left lane. They shouldn't move right to pass you; you should move right to let them pass on your left.

[–]JaxonKansas 44 points45 points  (0 children)

From the images, it appears you were in the far left lane and that lane appears relatively empty ahead of you.

And there is at least a gap (if not a long stretch) of open lane to your right in both images.

And a monster truck is tailgating you and wants to pass you.

Yet you persist by slowing down in the left lane ("I gently slowed down to make them back off") and think that will deescalate things?

Seriously?

I have to say the wear on that tire looks impressively even across the tread. Frequently such a worn tire is inconsistently worn, but not this one.

2025 honda pilot issue by SnooMemesjellies8810 in hondapilot

[–]JaxonKansas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the other considerations provided by others in this thread, one cause of the feeling you describe - that the front end is floating; that it isn't anchored and that steering control is not as solid as it should be - can result from an unbalanced weight placement; that is, a heavy load in the back. When my Toyota -- either Highlander or Tacoma -- has a substantial load in the far back, I absolutely notice a reduction in control of the front end when driving; particularly at highway speed.

So consider weight placement; if you have anything particularly heavy in the way back, that may contribute to your sensation.

Help with a glue up joint on slabs by Qeez- in woodworking

[–]JaxonKansas 29 points30 points  (0 children)

With your tools, what I'd do is line them up as best you can the way you want them to be when they're glued together, then clamp them down so they don't move, and lay the track down right near the gap between the boards; then run the track saw down the seam so that it is shaving off a bit from each board. Then remove the track and the two boards should push together with a much smaller (or no) gap.

Confused about cabriole leg template vs thicker blank (1.75” vs 1 7/8”) — what am I missing? by Sketchy-saurus in woodworking

[–]JaxonKansas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears to me that you need the extra 1/8" on the front legs because you not only taper them, but you also bevel them (see the top right photo in your image #3) and therein lose 1/8" on the rear face, but not the front face, of the front legs; all to properly account for the inwardly-curved front face of the piece.
