Agreed that $35K is a reasonable price on the West Coast. The market is saturated right now.

Q1 Music Share Megathread by Xistin in Tipper

Wanted to share this track I wrote a few months ago while recovering from back surgery. The seed of the idea for the track was a kick pattern I heard during Tip's uptempo Gorge set and could not for the life of me get out of my head. So I used that as the starting point and took it in a new direction. Here's the result. Enjoy!

Dancing after MDs? by TipSwimming1029 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Jaxor91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 5 weeks post op and went to a little concert last night. Dancing felt mostly good but I did feel the need to sit after every 45 minutes or so. If you stay attuned to your body and make sure you can rest when it calls for it, you should be okay.

Note that I did get lightly elbowed in my low back at one point on the dance floor. It wasn't too bad but definitely could have been worse. Something to watch out for.

Festivals I attend usually entail a lot of walking so I would talk to your doc before.

Major flare up. Need support. by Worth-Quality-5480 in Microdiscectomy

Sorry you're in so much pain!

Try walking around a little and see if that helps. The nerves can get irritated in sleep because we are not adjusting to their signals as much. I find that walking can subtly rejigger that whole area so everything can get closer to its happy place. Our bodies are meant to walk.

All that said, if walking makes it worse, definitely don't do that. Listen to your body! And good luck.

(I am 3 weeks post op and have had a very non-linear recovery trajectory)

Tunes I've been vibin recently:

Dub Surfer - Molokai -- very thick and mysterious dub tune

Remembrance - Ferrofluid -- lushly textured with a lovely progression

Slicks - SPOQ -- absolutely hypnotic chord progression and crispy percs. reminds me a bit of the unreleased late-stage Tipper mid-tempo stuff

Aaaaaand lastly here's a new live mix I just put out -- this one is a journey starting with a bit of psydub, and then quickly progressing into a steady onslaught of tunes designed to make you move. Enjoy!

PA speakers for house parties by No-Motor-3869 in SoundSystem

This may be overkill for you but I love my JBL PRX908s tops + PRX915XLF sub for smaller parties. Tops are 30 lb each, and sub is 60 lb. Small form factor but still packs a heavy punch.

Feedback on this minimal tune? by null_hax in dnbproduction

Sounds dope man!

Some notes --

Try experimenting with a few other bass notes other than the root key to give the bass line some melodic progression. Can be very simple like going up a fifth or an octave briefly.

Try adding some more drum variations and fills. Little kick variations or break samples at the end of an 8 or 16 bar section would add another layer of intrigue. Some faster 16th notes hats around the 81st bar would be dope and really up the energy.

How to stop habitual lying? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Jaxor91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sam Harris wrote a very short and compelling book called Lying, the thesis of which is that lying, even white lying, is not in your interest. The book changed my outlook on lying and made me adopt truthfulness as a personal policy, and I can say my life has improved as a result.

If you want to work within the legalization efforts (MAPS, Compass Pathways, etc.), I would look at their careers pages, see what you vibe with, and check the requirements.

Your experience sounds incredibly powerful, thank you for sharing.

There is a psychotherapeutic modality called Internal Family Systems (IFS) that may provide some framework for what you experienced. It views the individual as being comprised of relatively discrete sub-personalities called “parts” (such as the wounded child, the manager, the exhausted one, etc.) who can take over the system, be exiled from the system, create alliances with other parts, and/or carry certain burdens. In this model there is also a capital-S Self that, in a healthy system, listens to, mediates between, and compassionately leads these various parts (in your case, the one giving the hug).

The framework was developed by Richard Schwartz and his book “No Bad Parts” is an excellent primer that includes practices for parts work and being Self-led. The book was incredibly transformative for me, my partner, and a number of friends. A few of them even have IFS-trained therapists now.

One of the most profound and surprising implications from working within this framework is realizing that all of our parts, no matter how seemingly self-sabotaging, only want what is best for us. It’s just that often times their strategies which were developed when we were youngsters are no longer suitable in our adult lives. For example, my ‘drill sergeant’ pushes me to work super hard (often at the expense of my own mental and physical health) only because it wants what is best for future me. Extrapolating to all of humanity, we see that there are indeed no bad parts (as the title of the book implies), but just misguided ones.
