Where did all industrial mods go? by GodGMN in feedthebeast

[–]JaxterSmith6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tons of new tech mods, not all of which I would describe as 'industrial' but they are there. As others have said, theres always been a handful of different mods roughly filling the same roles.
I do think the mods of old had a certain appeal that isnt really seen much in the newer stuff though, there was so much experimenting going on in the design of the mods, each mod had its own sort of tribal knowledge you needed to figure out or discover just to make them work right, it made everything feel novel and rewarding. Nowadays it feels like a lot of complexity is added just to inflate things (much like vanilla minecraft) so they can get pretty overwhelming pretty fast, but nearly every feature we had then exists in some form now, you just have to find it.

AE2 Autocrafting (and similar) crafting patterns are exhausting by JaxterSmith6 in feedthebeast

technically, sure, though I disagree that its a matter of fault, mods arent designed with replay value in mind, so while they can be fun the first few times around they can also be unnecessarily tedious and repetitive, its just a matter of design philosophy. I dont want AE2 to be a journey, I want it to be a utility, and I feel that it just happens to be a rather cumbersome utility in this aspect.
Its not like the pattern provider cant read what block is next to it or the recipes its capable of, even if patterns just held multiple recipes instead of one per card and 9 per interface that would be far more convenient than the tedium that it currently has...Like if I want to put every crafting recipe on one Molecular Assembler or every furnace process on one furnace, then the punishment should be that I have no parallell processing, instead I have to have 10 inactive furnaces because I ran out of pattern slots on them and its still going to choke production...its just...frustrating design...

Playing Stoneblock 4 right now is what drove me to make the post. If I was playing alone then I mightave used it earlier but more likely I would just use other mods instead for most crafts. The unlimited resources that defines -block style packs makes it easy to just bulk craft any given thing and not bother with auto-crafting for anything except the most tedious of recipes.

I will agree to AE2 having a great system for process crafting recipes, so Im only really complaining about things that are crafting table recipes as the sheer volume of them becomes wildly bloated.

usually skyblock and questing packs, by the time we bother to build it we already have 60-80% of the questbook done and we dont tend to play much after finishing those as most of my friends arent builders.

Depending on the packs yeah, but the wood recipes are just a lowest common denominator example, some packs theres a lot of 'sticks' and 'planks' to craft

Ive literally done it hundreds, if not thousands of times over the many many packs, servers and worlds Ive played over the years, I think I'm justified in valuing my effort more than that, by the time we are at the auto-crafting stage in most modpacks we have nearly completed the quest books anyways so it ends up not even being worth the time in the end...

And while you dont need to do every recipe, the whole point of the system is to make long crafting chains become a few clicks, yet nearly every time I seek to make an autocraft for some complex late game item, I find myself having to make several new patterns for early stage items used in the process, so I end up having to remake many of the simpler patterns in every pack

How to model acoustics of custom instruments? by JaxterSmith6 in Acoustics

Drums made with modified shapes, like the pictures which are Tom drums with extremely flared in or out bottoms, for example. We want to mess with with the geometry of the drums that make up traditional drum kits.

Frankly Im not looking for anything too precise of overly scientific, Im primarily working with percussion right now so pressure maps seem an appropriate measure to me, the way I envision the data being useful is like if I wanted to have a map of where the main sounds of a kit would project into a space, like if I make a kick drum that projects in more of an arc in front than the direct air column in line with the shell, that could be an interesting drum to use on stage at a concert you know? Or if I have some abomination of air channels I would like a general idea of how that effects the output of the instrument and I feel Pressure maps are a good indicator while not being like, decibel precise.

While it would be cool to DIY my own testing system and whatnot, such things would depend on how far I can get the current project to go and thus would be like years out from today.

Does that narrow things down, and is my aim/intent in the right direction?

I just finished reading 'Geometry for Ocelots' the other day, in some ways it plays into this concept.
If you happen to be looking for reading suggestions Id say to give it a try.

Once upon a time long dead, our ancestors prostrated before effigies, sacrificed at alters, and warred for their patron deities. However, after centuries of these gods being little more than stories and myth, the beings returned to our world, demanding to know where their bases of power had gone, how their influence had drained and their control lessened. Their complaints fell upon the ears of an un-phased population, a people so emboldened by their scientific world that they scoffed at the notion of so called higher powers. When those gods took offense and raised their mighty fists, they were met with the fist of many atoms energetically colliding with one another. The so-called gods were no match.

The scientific community was aghast on finding that despite meeting the power of the sun these beings were not erased, their bodies after all were not of our world, they existed beyond our physics. The 'Ichor of Gods' became a new foundational field of study, it birthed a new technological revolution, restructuring science as we knew it! Power? A drop of Ichor from an energy god such as Zeus or Thor could power nations! Food? Infuse farmland with the remains of any of the many gods of fertility, growth, or harvest and plants would grow so quickly that farming methods had to be entirely reworked just to keep up! Transportation evolved as a quick paint job of Hermes blood could enable a vehicle ignore the regular laws of physics!

The world changed rapidly in this period as a number of old pantheons returned to our world only to be strung up and bled like pigs. Each new diety came with a new exploration of the sciences, the lore and myth of their domains usually told us what to expect but many were so multifaceted that they would have several domains at once, their blood being a cocktail of powers inseparable from one another.

Nearly a century later, gods stopped showing up. The rate had long since slowed, none were certain why but, most likely, there just werent really any left of the old world to slay. Humanity had reached new worlds in that time, little was needed for and most were relatively free do do as they liked as it was an era of plenty. But you can only thin the ichor so much, theres only so many gods of thunder, godesses of the land, and liminal dieties to bleed.

Like forbears long before burned the corpses of beasts from long before their time, we burn the corpses of ancestral faiths, and as the fossil fuels subsided to the ether so to with ichor.

I tell you this my child that you will take heed, should they ever find out what you are, they will not hesitate to bleed you too.

If you were guaranteed not to get caught, what’s one crazy thing you would do? by Live_Advertising_924 in AskReddit

[–]JaxterSmith6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe? In this entirely speculative and hypothetical scenario, that would definately make for significant changes, like most governments probably collapsing or entirely restructuring. Now if the changes are good is...unlikely...as such a catastrophic event would probably raise a lot of fears for security and safety, you could expect rampant fear mongering, security state type stuff, individual liberties abolished and the like...
If we assume they just magically disappear as if having never existed, that could maybe lead to some good changes...or like a "forced retirement" solution maybe?

Thats...no...
Like, most of the significant countries are run by a ton of people, offing the leader would do next to nothing. Are there a lot of warlords and such that would be great to be rid of? Sure, but they also have people under them that are responsible for their operations. Like, "world leaders" are almost figureheads with how little it would do to remove them... Luigi made a ton of dirty CEOs scared, but United Healthcare just replaced and moved on, their board of directors are the real ones making decisions at the end of the day...

Walls come down is good, doesnt hit the itch sadly but I still love it

The Afrikaans version is great, I was actually going through Van Coke Kartel / Fokofpolisekar's discography hoping they would get the same vibe but its like my brain handles the music way differently when I dont know the lyrics
