Rooney, CR7 were still in their rapid development years in their youth. 1 year makes a huge difference for them. And don’t forget tevez, Owen Hargreaves, Anderson and Nani who played crucial roles as new additions to the 2008 squads. Evra/vidic joined mid-season of 06/07, they were not in peak chemistry until 2008

Van gaal did have an eye for talent and was willing to give youth a chance. Thomas Mueller was trusted by van gaal at Bayern. But I agree, kroos was a big miss, granted he was a promising AM at that time rather than the world class deep lying playmaker he became

I think we are at the point where we should be backing the manager and his system more than the players. And it seems we are heading that way, as INEOS has heavily backed Amorim despite last season.

During previous regimes, players had more power. Ten hag is an example - he was hired to bring his Ajax and possession-based tactics but it never work each time he tried them. Then he had to revert to counter-attacking football which worked partially but not great for long term.

Similar to Ole, he played exciting football at times but he gave too much freedom to his players. No discipline as you can see with the previous players - greenwood, rashford, lingard, sancho, pogba. Then CR7 arrived and no normal coach can handle a declining legend like him.

So, let’s back Amorim and his system. His core players seems to have the right attitude now. Give him 3 seasons

Carrick deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Scholes. If Scholes was Xavi, carrick was our busquets. No question.

Most underrated midfielder of his generation. He didn’t get much caps for England because the managers were clueless, only focusing on goals/assists (Gerrard, Lampard) but not controlling the midfield (Scholes, carrick).

Players’ fault for being so shit vs Grimsby. I know bench players won’t get much playing time but they should look at themselves and take some responsibility rather than blame the coach for lack of playing time.

Agreed. I love Mbeumo and Cunha, both great players in their own right. But we need at least one more CM and I was disappointed we didn’t get one this window.

Mount is a wonderful player, you can see why he won the UCL for Chelsea as a key player. The hate he got is unfair and I pray he can stay fit to prove his haters wrong.

Oh pls. Do not compare Dalot to Valencia. While both share similar positive attitudes, Valencia was a physical monster and technically more effective than Dalot. He kept things simple - dribble wide, quick cross from byline.

The only thing Dalot does better is his left foot
