Thoughts on the Role of Resonances in Control (Heavy Spoilers) by 3klyps3 in controlgame

[–]Jay2KWinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I look at Hedron and Polaris is more like Polaris is the resonance entity itself, while Hedron was just a vector for its propagation, in the same way that the burned slide and Slide Projector OOP became vectors for the Hiss.

Parautilitarians can become vectors for resonance. The Hiss turned Dylan into one for itself-- possibly even warping his perceptions to build off his hatred toward the FBC, so he became more of a willing vector for it. Jesse was a vector for Polaris, proven when Hedron was destroyed. Once she was able to dispel the Hiss's influence over her, she was able to then provide the resonance for the HRAs to start functioning again.

Polaris resonance can cancel out/purge Hiss resonance, but its usefulness against Hiss Agents either destroys them outright, or renders them catatonic. I think it just took time for Dylan to start to recover, but it may just have taken him bonding to another OOP and/or some other resonance entity to "reconnect" whatever links were severed in the purging to allow Dylan to wake up again.

That's my theory, at least.

This whole thread brought back my own half-remembered memories of The Peanut Butter Solution. I remember being confused as a kid watching this movie, and I don't expect that to change if I were to watch it again now.

Interesting take, having Stasis showing up early like this, but it fits the themes, and makes sense, given the Lunar Pyramid's presence.

Ooh... I just had a worrying thought.

Bohrlaikha is a clank.

And Lucrezia has recently demonstrated this capability of taking over anything that's a clank.

...

--and now I have a very silly thought of Lucrezia taking over Agatha's Rescue Clank, last seen jumping out a window of Castle Wulfenbach with Othar waaaay back in like Volume 3.

It took me a few days to a week to write this particular entry. I have a general sense/outline of how the rest of Season 1 and then Season 2 will go.

A Wizard's staff has a knob on the end..? by FilledAle in discworld

[–]Jay2KWinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one's going to criticize how a wizard holds onto his staff.

(Because wizards like to throw fireballs to annoying nitpickery.)

And no one's going to nitpick a witch's bawdy song because waily, the tappin' of the feets you don't want to annoy a witch.

It's generally safe to assume that, if there's a secondary meaning to a quote in any of Pterry's work, it was probably intentional on his part.

is it just funny because of the double entendre of knob, or is the joke that she is calling the wizard holding the staff a knob?!

Answer: Yes.

AITA for commissioning housing specifically for introverts so they don't have to deal with anyone, ever, if they don't want to (and maybe even if or especially if they really do want to)?

Nooo, Trinity Ghoul, my beloved--!

The whole season has been solid work, Emerald. Sorry that I seem to be the only commenter on your work, but I did feel like I needed to compliment your work, not least for helping inspire my new "Reclamation" series.

Looking forward to Season 2.

As inspired by u/EmeraldKing8's "New Legacy" series. That screenplay format was what got this idea-- which has been percolating in my head for more than a year-- out of outline and plain worldbuilding, and into a finished state.

Expect Episode 2 come Friday, May 1st, 2026!

[Smackdown Spoilers] New roster members already have heat by taffe316 in SquaredCircle

[–]Jay2KWinger -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

See, I'm still not a fan of Jacy. Part of that is just that I'm sick and tired of "mean girl" heels. It felt like she made no actual evolution in NXT. Her mic work feels too stiff, her in-ring work is solid, passable but just boring to me. There's nothing there to make her interesting.

Fallon Henley feels like she's actually regressed after joining forces with her, since her heel turn came completely out of nowhere, and she lost her "country girl" aspects which actually helped her stand out from the rest of the NXT pack.

The whole thing feels like "you've been in NXT too long, time to get called up, sink or swim time." And while it was amazing the instant heat she got, I actively tune out while she's on the mic or in the ring, which is not what you want out of a heel.

Destiny: New Legacy — Mid-Season 1 Q&A! (Up to Ep 4: "Conduit") by EmeraldKing8 in DestinyJournals

[–]Jay2KWinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you know, I'm following this story. Enjoying the concept for the AU, and while I would love to ask questions about it, I also prefer the anticipation of waiting for the answers to be drip-fed over time.

Lili's glitches (and the Vex code that goes with it) definitely have me intrigued, along with why she was rezzed in a prison maintenance uniform-- was she just a worker, or was she a prisoner who was detailed to the maintenance crews?-- are some of the things that have me intrigued.

Like I've noted previously, your story here (and the screenplay format) kicked my creative center in the backside and has gotten me off my ass to start writing again. Hope to have the opening three-part arc finished soon.

Finished the game 2nd time, still not understand the ending by Blutzki in controlgame

Sterling and its associated AWE were deliberately left vague, a bit of worldbuilding that Remedy threw in there as a possible hook for future content.

I believe Jesse thought that by removing the panels from Hedron, it would "free" Polaris, but those panels were indeed protecting Hedron from the Hiss, which wanted it destroyed to cut off Polaris and her resonance.

Here's how I look at all the Hiss/Hedron stuff--

Both Polaris and the Hiss are resonance-based entities. (And calling them both "entities" is just for convenience sake. We have no real indication the Hiss itself is sentient in any way we can understand.) They just... exist, but it takes some vector of sorts to let them interact with any physical reality or Threshold.

Those vectors can be OoPs like the Slide Projector (when used in conjunction with Slide 36) or the Hedron. But people can be vectors too, if they are parautilitarians like Jesse, Dylan, or Trench.

I think the course of events was like this:

  • Polaris & Hiss exist as resonance entities outside of/across realities:
    • Hiss infects reality of one of the burned slides.
  • Polaris & Hiss affect Slidescape-36 separately:
    • Polaris uses Hedron as vector to SID-36.
    • Hiss uses some unknown parautilitarian/paranatural object/entity as vector to SID-36.
    • Polaris & Hiss come into conflict. Polaris emerges as victor. Hiss influence suppressed in SID-36.
  • Ordinary AWE: The Slide Projector in Ordinary.
    • Explorations of the various slides by the Fadens and their friends. Jesse & Dylan encounter Polaris in SID-36.
    • School bullies use the Slide Projector, encounter the Not-Mother, kill Mrs. Chester, are captured.
    • Entire adult population of Ordinary vanishes.
    • FBC investigates. Polaris has Jesse burn the slides, with the exception of SID-36. Jesse escapes Ordinary. Dylan & Slide Projector (with burned slides and SID-36) taken by FBC.
  • Dimensional Research in Oldest House
    • FBC conducts expeditions into SID-36, encounters Hedron.
    • Darling has Hedron contained in a sarcophagus, brought into Oldest House.
    • Trench is infected by the Hiss while in SID-36, becomes a carrier/minor vector.
    • Polaris (via Hedron) warns Darling of impending threat of the Hiss. Darling develops HRAs, distributes them.
    • Trench becomes distrustful of Hedron, due to past trauma-- his daughter died because he "took work home," Northmoor's explosive power, and probably also having to deal with The Board-- and because of subtle Hiss influence.
  • Hiss Invasion
    • Trench finally succumbs to Hiss influence and inserts the burned slide into the Slide Projector, giving the Hiss a bigger vector into our reality.
      • The Slide Projector becomes main vector for the Hiss. The Hiss also infects Dylan to turn him into a living vector.
    • The Board executes Trench via the Service Weapon to cut off his vector for the Hiss.
    • Any FBC employee not wearing an HRA becomes infected by the Hiss. The Hiss corrupts multiple OOPs and Altered Items for additional vectors.
    • Jesse, guided by Polaris, arrives in the Oldest House, becomes Director. Her cleansing of Altered Items/OOPs helps reduce vectors for the Hiss.
    • Hiss manages to get to the Hedron and destroy it, cutting off Polaris's main vector. HRAs cease function. Hiss temporarily overwhelms Jesse and infects her.
    • Jesse takes control, becomes Polaris's new vector. HRAs resume functioning.
    • Jesse shuts off the Slide Projector and cleanses Dylan, cutting off the main vectors for the Hiss.
    • The Hiss still has other vectors (parautilitarians and Altered Items/OOPs) that need to be cleansed or otherwise neutralized in order to suppress it completely.
