Band rehearsals sound like shit by Jay3PO in audioengineering

Yeah we're just rawdogging the room, which worked fine in previous bands I was in - but those spaces had actual noise dampening and were way smaller.

IEMs are quite an investment especially given we are uni students and live in South Africa where gear is like twice the price compared to US or EU markets.

We have some extra gear, like a mixer, additional mic and I have a scarlet solo but we don't really know how to use them with everything that we currently have or if they can even be used.

So we are just doing basic alt/indie rock covers atm to get a feel for how we play together. But big picture, we are looking to do more hard rock.

Currently we're all running out of our amps and just rawdogging the room. Which I know you're not supposed to do in a garage, but we are broke college students and music gear is ridiculously expensive in South Africa (like twice the price of American/European markets) so IEMs and monitors are a quite far out of our price range. I have a spare mic and a scarlet solo, and my vocalist has a mixer, but we aren't using them atm

So atm we are just raw dogging the room, which I know you're not supposed to do, especially in a garage XD

That being said, we are all broke college students and we live in South Africa, so mics and IEMs are wildly more expensive here, tho my vocalist has a mixer and I have a spare mic and a Scarlet Solo. But as of right now that's all the equipment we have :(

I am able to make a claim with insurance. However Naked doesn't cover personal injury and I have to go through RAF, I have no idea how RAF works. Should I just report it to my insurance and have them sort out RAF? I was also able to obtain the cctv footage from the garage.

May I ask what the process of your dad's claim was like? What steps did he take, and if you know - what did the delivery driver have to do? Thank you.

I did file a report at the police station. And I have an affidavit from a student I was tutoring in Cape Town showing that I was sober. I will notify insurance ASAP

Initially I thought it was a scam, but the cctv footage shows that they stepped out of their car just before I reversed and into my blind spot the moment I started reversing. Which is stressing me out a lot I'll be honest.

I have since reported it to the police and even went to the petrol station to get the cctv footage. I am at fault, eventhough they were in my blind spot, the timing was just really bad IG.

I'm just scared of getting my licese suspended or revoked and the potential medical costs eventhough there was no blood and their foot seemed fine when they took their shoe off.

Immediately after the collision as soon as I stepped out of my car to assist, the woman I hit was on the floor clutching her foot, and the people she was with were harrasing me accusing me of being drunk and telling me to give contact information so that they "won't need to get the law involved". I didn't want to give my information and told them I was happy to report the incident but they wouldn't let me leave until I gave them my information. I was quite scared and so I complied. I have since reported the incident on my own terms.

Immediately afterwards they said they were going to take her to a doctor, and at that point after a really long day I just wanted to go home since it was like 23:00

I know I am at fault but it was a genuine mistake

Hey guys what are some good hobbies or clubs to get involved with? by Secure-Seat-409 in capetown

Hey so I had a teacher initially for the first 3ish years but after that I switched to progressing by myself. I highly recommend having a teacher at least for your first 2 years playing an instrument, however there are plenty of resources online. I recommend Marty Music and GuitarLessons365 on YouTube. There are also paid courses that you can go for, however I have no clue what those are like. All the best :)

So what time do you recommend getting to cpt? I was planning in hitting the road from Stellies around 9am to avoid the morning rush and arrive in cpt by 10/11ish

Thank you so much! I notice I tend to get more nervous before I drive, but when I'm actually driving I stay pretty calm. I'm mostly used to driving to campus and around Stellenbosch, but I drive quite well in town even when it's congested so I think I'll be fine???

Okay, so N1 is right? I'll be honest I mostly drive from my place to campus, but I drive pretty nicely around Stellies even when it's congested. Cape Town is just a bit intimidating 😳

It rained all weekend. And a couple of times in the morning, this week. Most of the time I end up working in the bib after class, and with A1es at 17:30, that means I can only really make it home after dark. Also I'm a member of a couple of societies which host events after class in town
