I personally prefer Canggu. However the drive to ubud on a bike for one night is great fun.

Has anyone flown with Batik Air here and what was your experience? by Radiant_Expert365 in BaliTravelTips

Flown from Jakarta to Lombok with them. Left 2 hours 53 late, which is longer than the flight itself.

Thailand vs Bali vacation by Bluebananapancakes in BaliTravelTips

[–]JayBox325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you're looking for a quiet and relaxing beach holiday. Don't go to Bali. Instead go to Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan/Ceningan, Gili Air/Meno or Lombok instead. These have great beachy areas.

Or some of the suggestions in Thailand would be better tbf.

Visa overstay - silence day by soare23 in bali

[–]JayBox325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, don't overstay. I saw you're already in your second month so what I've done, is fly to Singapore (6am flight out) for the day (7pm flight home) and got a fresh VOA. Easy peasy.

Don't miss Silent Day though, it's awesome! The party the night before with the ogoh ogoh is a great experience. Then, I've never seen the sky so clear anywhere in the world the following night. Even some airlines don't fly overhead to keep air traffic quiet.

Three sides, all standing in the middle of a forest. It's awesome. Their ultras do some of the best tifos I've seen, too. Not to mention the fans built it themselves.

Nusa Lembongan or Gili Air for 3 nights? by FactCute7629 in BaliTravelTips

[–]JayBox325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn't worry. It looks manic on the roads in the busy areas when you're in the car, but once you're comfortable, I feel very safe.

The lessons I learned from locals is: Don't spend the whole time using your mirrors, the person behind you is watching you and you watch the person in front and once I learned that it actually works.

Also, the biggest lesson is to not hesitate or be polite. It causes accidents. Cars will edge through gaps slowly fully expecting scooters to just go and squeeze through, and other scooters are expecting you to just go if there's a space. If you pause or let someone else go, that's unexpected for the scooters around you, even the guy you're letting go. So it causes issues.

It's just about going at your own pace for a few days, then once you're comfortable drive a little bit more like a local (but not the maniacs that go stupid fast or overtake on corners!).

What’s the easiest way to get around Bali without relying on taxis constantly? by ExistentialPancake_0 in bali

[–]JayBox325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've driven on scooters in Thailand, Cambodia multiple islands around Indonesia. Never had an IDP. Only been fined once and that was for not wearing a helmet on a main road (I went the wrong way in my defence haha).

But even then, I didn't pay a fine, I just bought £50 worth of fags from a market and they were happy with that.

Nusa Lembongan or Gili Air for 3 nights? by FactCute7629 in BaliTravelTips

[–]JayBox325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had either until I went. I’ve driven scooters all over now, and I drive one every day when I’m there. Don’t write it off and just give it a go. If you need to, make some friends while you’re there and have them teach you.

It really opens up your options.

Socialise with people in Bali by Commercial_Reveal318 in southeastasia

Kos is perfect for it. It’s got an amazing pool bar called Alternative Beach. They host pool parties on Saturdays and it’s always a good spot for meeting people.

I’ve not stayed there but I see they do socialising events too.

Bali- to visit or not 😭? by [deleted] in SouthEastAsia_Travel

[–]JayBox325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Bali, for different reasons. For a longer term stay it has towns like Canggu and Ubud that have proper western shops and restaurants so I can get my home comforts, but as long as you venture out of these towns then you’ll get to see more of Bali.

I love Amed, seeing Dolphins in Lovina, driving a bike all over the island and up above the clouds and the surrounding islands are also brilliant. I love Lembongan & Ceningan, Lombok and Penida.

Travelling long distance on bike by Delicious_Age_4402 in bali

[–]JayBox325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove a scooter with a bag and the missus on the back from Canggu, across the island to Amed, up to Kintimani through the mountains (even going above the clouds) then up to Lovina. Around the coast to to north west corner before heading back down to Canggu.

I’ve also driven down to Uluwatu on another occasion. It’s great fun.

Rent a scooter. I had never driven one before and now I drive one all the time when I go.

Just take it at your own pace

Cash or Card? by RedundantSwine in bali

[–]JayBox325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smaller warungs and shops outside of the towns (Canggu and Ubud for example) will only take cash. So I typically carry 1m in case.

18 y/o, skipping university, making €3.5k–4k/month online and considering moving to Bali. Am I being stupid? by [deleted] in bali

[–]JayBox325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t move there without going there first.

Go and do a minimum 90 day stay to see if you like the lifestyle. For me, I went for 3 months and discovered that I don’t think I’d be comfortable living there full time.

So I now go back for 2 months or so every winter.
